Soccer’s ultimate trophy will be paraded to football fans all over the world and it is expected to get to Zimbabwe in the last week of November on tour sponsored by the Coca Cola Company.

The Zimbabwean leg was confirmed  by FIFA in Zurich. The trophy is set to go to 50 countries before it reaches South African in 2010. The trophy tour is set to take up to 70 days with the tour starting in Egypt.

Tickets for the historic event will be sold at designated areas in countries where the tour will pass through,” confermed Togi Chinoda, spokesman for Coca Cola Zimbabwe.

On the other hand Zimbabwe`s backstroke magician Kirsty Coventry’s African record in the 50-metre backstroke has been broken by South African swimming star Chanelle van Wyk at the ongoing Telkom SA National Aquatics Championships.

The Cape Town-born swimmer posted a world championship qualifying time of 28.55 secs in the 50 metres backstroke as she eclipsed Kirsty`s.“I have been battling with injury to the rotating blades on both of my shoulders, so I am delighted with the time,” said Van Wyk.

“To better Coventry’s continental record and to post a world championship A standard qualifying time is really exciting.”she said

She eventually qualified for the FINA world Championships to be held in Rome in July.

Other names of people who will be  participating at the FINA event, besides  Coventry consist of  Gerhard Zandberg, Lyndon Ferns, Darian Townsend, Jean Basson and Jasper Venter and all are from South Africa.
