Tsvangirai makes key Office Appointments

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has picked a longtime Senior Advisor, a former chief executive officer of a leading insurance company, and officials from the Movement for Democratic Change and the Civic society to run his office and economic initiatives, putting heft into roles likely to dominate the unity government’s policy.

Longtime Senior Advisor Ian Makone, will be the Secretary to the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Makone,the MDC Director of Elections, had already started on his role before the official announcement yesterday.

Chief campaign strategist and Media Adviser in the March 2008 Election, Andrew Chadwick, has been appointed Communications Director.

Former First Mutual Ltd (FML) chief executive officer Norman Sachikonye was picked to be Principal Director for Finance and Administration. The business leader will be the point man for Tsvangirai ‘s administration team. Sachikonye has a strong financial background, having spent over a decade at First Mutual, a leading insurance group, where he was instrumental in the transformation of the company from a mutual society to a public listed company.

Tsvangirai chose long time aide Ghandi Mudzingwa to be his Principal Director for Infrastructure. Mudzingwa is the former Director of Presidential Affairs in the MDC and was just released last week on a charge of banditry and domestic terrorism.
