AS expected, the Williams sisters — Venus and Serena – blasted their way into the final of the women’s doubles at Wimbledon after making mince meat of Cara Black and Liezel Huber in the semi-finals yesterday.

The top-seeded pair of Zimbabwean tennis star Black and her American partner Huber were no match for the Williams sisters who beat them in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

It took fourth seeds and defending champions Venus and Serena Williams exactly one hour one minute to send the co-world number ones packing in a one-sided tie on Court One.

The Williams were like a ball of fire in yesterday’s match.

Two breaks of serve in the second and fourth games of the first set saw the Williams racing to a 4-0 lead before moving 5-0 up after holding their serve for the third time in the fifth game.

Black and Huber, who looked like they were hit by a tornado, managed to hold their serve for the first time in the match in the sixth game to reduce the arrears to 1-5.

But the Williams sisters served out the set in the sixth game, taking it 6-1 in 28 minutes.

The script did not change in the second set which saw the Williams galloping to a 4-0 lead after two breaks of serve in the first and third games.

Although Black and Huber made it 1-4 after holding their serve in the fifth game, they could not dig themselves out the hole as they did not have enough arsenal to stop the powerful serving Williams.

The Williams finally sealed the set and match in the eighth game after holding their serve when leading 5-2.The second set lasted 33 minutes.

Venus and Serena Williams, who will contest the Wimbledon singles final for a fourth time today, have reached the final of the women’s doubles for a second successive year.

In the final, the three-time defending champions will face the third-seeded Australian pair of Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs.

Stosur and Stubbs upset the second-seeded Spanish duo Virginia Ruano Pascual and Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-2 in the other semi-final tie yesterday.

The Williams sisters were doubles champions at Wimbledon in 2000, 2002 and 2008.
