Wafawarova goes begging

Australian based former director of the National Youth Service and key Mugabe surrogate Reason Wafawarova has begged Metro to pull down a story that appeared on the website on Thursday to Friday that alleged that Australian authorities could deport him over allegations that he is spying for President Robert Mugabe and his role in the ZANU PF militia.

In three emails and a phone call Wafawarova begged Metro to pull down the story and tried to dissociate himself from an earlier article he wrote for The Herald in which he said MDC Members of Parliament who jeered Mugabe must be assassinated.

“You attribute words that I never wrote to me in an unnamed article published by an unnamed newspaper and I have no slightest doubt that you know you were making this statement up.”said Wafawarova.

For the record Metro did mention that the article in question was published by The Herald in its print edition and was titled “MDC Hooligans must face the music”.

Wafawarova then tried to bring attention to a failed lawsuit he filed against ABC Radio National’s Background Briefing, denying his role in the National Youth Service.

“And as for the Supreme Court decision you got it all wrong. It will just kill your story for what it is. The decision was far different from what you wrote .

I am kind of happy that my lawyers will find this case particularly interesting, very interesting indeed ”

The Australian Supreme Court ruled in October last year that there was evidence from The Zimbabwe Parliamentary Hansard that Wafawarova was a key figure in National Youth Service which committed atrocities, but ABC failed to prove that he was personally responsible for murdering opposition supporters.

The court ordered at first instance that Wafawarova should pay the cost of the case because there was ample evidence that he was involved in the national Youth service.

“Let me not threaten you by any action Ray but I can promise that this matter will be looked at the same way it was when the ABC did it.” threatened Wafawarova.

Wafawarova went to on to beg Metro to pull down the story. “Wapindwa nei nhai munin’ina? Please pull down the story, your site will be regarded as worse than a tabloid and I share the shame of having associated with you before you shifted into this unproffessionalism.”

“I hold anything against you Mhaka. I wish you good luck in all this. I know this is so shameful that you will not reply me at all.” said Wafawarova.

Immigration experts say the court’s decision has no bearing on any future deportation order.

Wafawarova could fail the character test where “they have, or have had, an association with an individual, group or organisation suspected of having been, or being, involved in criminal conduct”.
All it takes is “that there should form a reasonable suspicion of an association…”, said the expert.

Meanwhile Metro was on Thursday following the publication of the story inundated with phone calls and emails from Wafawarova’s former colleagues and students in the National Youth Service interested in giving more evidence of his involvement in the Youth militia and suspected links with the dreaded Central Intelligence Organization.

In a related development The Democratic Socialist Perspective (DSP), a Marxist political think tank based in Australia has further dissociated itself from Wafawarova.

“ The Democratic Socialist Perspective disassociates itself from Reason Wafawarova, self
styled Zimbabwean political commentator. Mr Wafawarova is an a pologist for Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, while we defend the national sovereignty of Zimbabwe we do not support Mugabe’s corrupt and brutal dictatorship” The organization said in a statement.

In April this year the organization was forced to cancel a proposed forum which would have been addressed by Wafawarova after he apparently lied to the organisation that he was a trade unionist and a member of the International Socialist organization(ISO) opposed to Robert Mugabe.
