A political impasse in Zimbabwe has raised concerns from regional leadership that the situation “could get out of hand”, South Africa’s Department of International Relations director general Ayanda Ntsaluba said today

Department of International Relations director general Ayanda Ntsaluba
“The worst fear of all of us is the petty squabbling and politicking among the leaders will lead to the squandering of resources,” Ntsaluba told reporters in Pretoria.
He said the tight time frame of 30 days to settle the disagreement over key posts in implementing the unity government in Zimbabwe was indicative of the impatience felt by regional leaders.
“The fact that there are clear time frames, as tight as they are, it’s a significance of some degree of impatience that the political leaders must not squander what appears to be the opportunity, the only opportunity, to pull it [Zimbabwe] out of the abyss.”
Last week at a Southern African Development Community summit it was agreed that Zimbabwe’s leaders would commit to the implementation of the unity government within 30 days.
“The inclusive government essentially is the only game in town,” said Ntsaluba.
Some of the “impediments” that had been noted by the SADC ministerial after meeting with the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) included the appointment of the reserve bank governor, the attorney-general and provincial governor.
It has also raised concerns that there may be a re-emergence of political instability and the possibility of new land invasions.
Zanu-PF has raised the MDC’s failure to aid in the lifting of sanctions and contestations around the common understanding of the joint power sharing agreement.
Ntsaluba argued however that it was understood that the implementation would not be an easy process.
“The political temperature was a bit higher than normal,” he said of the visit to Zimbabwe.
“We are dealing effectively with a fragile process. The levels of trust are not exactly where they should be, dealing with people who were virtually at war,” said Ntsaluba.

The day the GNU was signed, I posted a comment that this was a recipe for disaster. When the MDC-T was out of government enemy lines were clearly drwan and each side knew its enemy. As it is there is a lot of suspicion on both sides and the new kid on the block would like to get his hands on the matrix of power. The old boy wont allow it.
In my opinion, if Zim is to be saved from chaos there can be only two solutions:1) Zanu pf must choose a newer and younger leadership to take over before Mugabe meets his maker
2)MDC-T must be frustrated right out of gvt and we see a clear demacation of power.
I tell you if Mugabe is said to have died today, chaos can easily ensure. The bulldogs in Zanu pf will never have anyone able to control them without express consent from the chief junta himself. Those bulldogs will not watch MDC-T boys try to assume power after the vacuum created by Mugabe’s departure.I worry about Zimbabwe all the time. Mugabe must show concern for Zimbabwe by doing the right thing and sorting out his leadership mess in Zanu pf, we cannot afford to have him die on the throne like Jonathan Moyo would like us to believe. Zimbawe’s fate is inevitably tied to Mugabe.
The gospel according to saint Abel.
I never expected this from you Abel for the first time around but why can’t you yourself take over as you are a better leader than Morgan and the old boy who is now kadore, kahari kofanzirofa pachikonzi – my foot!
Nyati, in zanu pf you will be suprised at the technocrats that are there and i know there are very capable leaders but they are just cowed by the big boys.I am just a nobody frustrated by both sides MDC and zpf. Even in MDC there are capable leaders but the polarity engulfing the country makes it impossible for a different person to rise.
Abel, Abel what is happening these days my friend? Wa Chinja maitiro! Welcome to the real world Abel. Your reasoning is surprising here. Thats what we have been saying all along. Mugabe is the problem and JOC is the worst problem.
Dont give yourself false comfort Sheppy.I dont disagree with Cde Mugabe in his principle stands but I just acknowledge that he is of advanced age. That should not fool you into thinking that I have any respect for those puppets you support. I believe we need to transform our party and save Zimbabwe from being ruled by some remote controlled dolls called MDC.
Abel, Abel you think we just hate zanu for the sake of it, Takabvaneko kumhunga kusinaipwa. RGM is Zanu and either way if he goes like a brutal polygomous head saSadam, even amahuwa will run away from that rotton party which fouled the national, economic and communal drinking well. FROLIZ, FORUM, ZUM, ZUD, ZUPO, UP etc, etc are all now in the independent Zimbabwe history and achives. I know ALL of them and their scandals and how it will be almost impossible to raise the national fabric from the ashes. Look at how indegenisation and empowerment has crumbled under the wait of Zanu-PF sematamba/mazhumwi/mbumi kuti buu. Nhongos, Ngwenas etc etc are ALL non starters beacuse sekuru is the First husband of the Late First Lady, and now he is the Second Husband of the current Second, First Lady, etc. etc, etc!!
Nyati, seems ndiwe wega wakabva kumhunga bhururu. You must be one of the three wise men from the east but what exactly are you saying in the midst of your fascinating riddles? I am not as gifted as you in this literature so you might want to break it down a bit.
I am very, very happy that you only know me as who I purport to be otherwise its better I remain silent like Albert Nyati my brother who willl/would/shall not speak – thanks so much. The sun shall rise to all of us the sooner the better, anyway Zanu-PF was politically castrated long time AGO and are waiting burial anytime anywhere soon.
