Roy Bennett, the MDC National Treasurer General and Deputy Agriculture minister-designate, was Wednesday sworn in as a non constituency Senator.
Bennett first appeared in a Mutare court for a remand hearing. The former Chimanimani legislator was remanded to the 21st of April.
He then left the eastern border city in a hurry so he could make it back to Parliament to be sworn-in as one of the MDC’s chosen non-constituency Senators.
“Now we have passed the first hurdle, the next hurdle is to be sworn in as deputy minister,” Bennett told reporters soon afterwards.
This was the first time Bennett was back at Parliament after he left and served time after a brawl involving justice minister Patrick Chinamasa. Bennett was the MP for Chimanimani.
Two other non-constituent MDC Senators were also sworn-in, Deputy Local government Minister and former Mutare Mayor Sessil Zvidzai and Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister Tichaona Mudzingwa.
