Told Mugabe to ahead with run-off and this deal is a farce

I will never subscribe to the notion that disposed South African president Thabo Mbeki is Zimbabwe’s saviour,no that just not true, pure malarkey,if anything Mbeki is the author of Zimbabwe’s demise.

During a period when shocking – systematic violence, abductions and brutal murders were perpetrated by Mugabe’s henchmen, guess who told Mugabe to go ahead with the run-off, delayed the deployment of observers and tried to influence their report – Thabo Mbeki.

With all this Mbeki ’s policy has included actively blocking United Nations discussions about human rights abuses in Zimbabwe. Are people aware that Mbeki’s administration voted against a resolution demanding that the Burmese junta stop ethnic cleansing and free jailed Aung San Suu Kyi.

Mbeki further instructed his UN ambassador to oppose a resolution condemning rape and attacks on civilians in Darfur – and rolled out the red carpet for a visit from Sudan’s genocidal leader, Omar al-Bashir.

His policy of quiet diplomacy is pure gibberish if it produces results after a decade– highly flawed results for that matter. A dictator like Mugabe needs confrontation. Quite diplomacy is gross irresponsibility and appalling.

Obviously one explanation could be that Mbeki was an exile during the apartheid instead of a prisoner,so he has less sympathy for prisoners and freedom fighters in other countries.

Mbeki’s stupidity has led to a powerful faction within the ANC, led by Jacob Zuma to be sympathetic to the MDC cause. Soon after the March election a key Zuma ally,Tokyo Sexwale offered a plane to transport MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai on his diplomatic offensive.

So here is a question across southern Africa: Did revolutionary parties in the region fight for liberation or for liberty? If merely for liberation from Western imperialism, then aging despots like our illegitimate president and oppressive ruling parties have a claim to power. But if for liberty, those who work for freedom in Zimbabwe must also have their day.

The highly celebrated so called “Power sharing deal”is a farce. I have read that document for the sixth time and it is pregnant with ZANU PF language and Mbeki’s ideology of “African renascence”.

So far, Mbeki – of all people -has sided with a dictator. His recent disposition from the presidency is the best thing that ever happened to Africa-good riddance I say with a smile.

  1. John Smith says:

It answers the question as to what took Mbeki so long to do ANYTHING to resolve the crisis. It certainly seems that Zanu PF fougth for liberation not liberty. Messrs Mugabe and allied cronies have subjugated the people of Zimbabwe as surely as Hitler and Stalin did their countrymen.
If they can indict the Sudanese strongman Bashir, they should go after Mugabe.
