Ceaser Zvayi,the former editor of The Herald was not the same rapid wordsmith who openly celebrated the violent crackdown on the opposition in Zimbabwe when police came to pick him up in an open truck at his campus office on Friday afternoon. All he could say visibly holding back tears was,’You people don’t understand.’
Zvayi was given his contract termination letter on Thursday night by the Head of Media Studies Department, Professor David Kerr. Last week Kerr has indicated that Zvayi’s ideology was, “an issue of concern”.
The university finally succumbed to pressure after students taking Writing for Print and News Writing and Reporting 1 in the university’s Faculty of Communications and Media, started boycotting his lectures in protest after Metro broke the story two weeks ago.
Students at the university were set to be joined by Zimbabweans residing in Gaborone to stage a protest at the campus on Monday.Anti-Mugabe sentiments are particularly strong among Botswana citizens and the Botswana government has taken a particular hard line stance against Mugabe.
The development comes as reports say students at the University of Zimbabwe are augmenting their lecturers’ salaries. Zvayi could have stood to earn more than 8000 Pula a month as a lecturer at the University of Botswana,a salary a full professor at any university in Zimbabwe can only dream of.
Zvayi has in the past openly called for the alienation of the opposition and celebrated the violent crackdown on the opposition in that country, he is well know for bastardizing the MDC acronym to mean Movement for the Destruction of our Country, sometimes with the ascetic ‘movement’ for ‘morons’. Last year he used a racial slur against the US Ambassador calling him a “house Ni***r”.
Alongside Sunday Mail’s Munyaradzi Huni became the first journalist to be added to the European Union travel restrictions on Zimbabwe.
He is accused of propagating hate speech in an updated list of 37 individuals and 4 ‘entities’ under a visa ban and assets freeze. They are accused of whipping up support during a state sponsored terror campaign during and after the June 29 controversial run off election.

What goes around comes around, Ceasar should have known that getting a job in Botswana is not going to be sustainable. Now he will face the harsh reality of the Zimbabwe he advocated under the Mugabe regime when he has no job because he absconded from Herald without properly resigning and giving notice. He should come back and enjoy the 100% total empowerment he was so enthisiastic to promote. Now he will discover just how brutal and unforgiving Zanu can be. If I were you Ceaser, I would do the Jonathan Moyo, its his only chance now.
I think this was more than fare. Zvayi should not have applied to educate the Tswanas, he should have gone to the University of Zimbabwe - they need lecturers. i think those who restrict the advancement of fellow Zimbabweans should lose their opportunity to advance on the world stage as well.
I hope they do this for ZANU PF minions arround North America and Europe like Australia did - sent them packing. 100 % total empowerment.
The Tswanas should not have hired Zvayi in the first place.

Baba to be honest the resources in Zimbabwe belongs to the black Zimbabweans not white people because you guys you have benefited from our resources for far too long. I just dont undestand people.We are busy preaching peace but there comes people like Tawanda and talk the way he talks about whites being deported. What have they done? Whose land did they take? There should be no room for racism, but we should appreciate that whites had a dispropportionate advantage and access to immense resources for a long time. I strongly believe that black people should control their resources be it land or minerals, anyone who try to oppose it like the 77 white farmers who want the SADC court to reverse the land should be deported if they show their loyalty to the UK or if they believe in themselves as Zimbabweans they shouldn`t have took this issue of challenging the land reform laws of Zimbabwe. I am not a thug as you think Mr Zimbabwe but I am a patriotic and I am ready to sacrified my blood to defend the revolution that empowers the black race in Zimbabwe. I am not like you who worship white people. Our country is being subjected and encouraged to go to war because you want to return our motherland back to the British, one should look at Georgia where is it now. Your western friends seem not to understand kuti Zimbabwe ndeyeropa. I am sorry for calling you a white man because you sound like one of the white R****, and I hate R**** who preach democracy and yet they never allowed black people not even to vote. They persecuted our parents and not even one was charged for crimes against humanity.
I lost an unlce and thankfully one returned from the war of liberation. My family, like many other Zimbabweans helped out in the war effort by providing vanaMukoma with food and ‘intelligence’. My uncle tells me this isn’t what he fought for and many of his former brothers-in-arms share his sentiments. What justifies the murderous actions of ZANU PF in the last few months and in the 1980’s? It seems all that was achieved was to swap one oppressor for another. My fallen uncle and many other fallen warriors in unmarked graves must be turning in their graves. My surviving uncle tells me they fought for equality for all races who make up our nation. I agree that issues such as land needed addressing but my question to you is why kill people to take it? The country has a large enough army to forcibly remove anyone standing against that. Why kill Zimbabweans because they choose to vote for somebody else because they are sick and tired of bearing the brunt of your ruinous policies? Please respond rationally.
The deportation of Caesar Zwayi should not be a cause of rejoicing for any Zimbabwean. I am not a supporter of Zwayi and Mugabe and am very sure he could easily be charged in the Hague for aiding a genocide. I am however not happy with how he has been handled and would be happy to offer him legal advice to recover the salary for the duration of his contract.
On the other hand I feel the Botswana Government should not have processed his work permit in the first place. It is highly possible that the young man could have been a member of Mugabe’s CIO and I feel that the newly established directorate of inteligence is a big let down. As a resident of Botswana I feel the government must protect us from undesirable elements like Caesar.The UB itself must also be held liable for negligency. The head of department claims that Caesar was the best qualified candidate but they should have looked at his employment history to judge if he was indeed the best. Working for the Herald would disqualify even a PHD candidate. Does it mean UB can employ Mahoso?
Despite the obvious facts, the fact remains that Caesar was offered a job. He accepted the offer, left his previous job and travelled more than 1000 km to his new station. He probably sold a number of his belongings to prepare for relocation. He deserves compensation.

They left the country mainly out of desperation and sold everything they had to start afresh(cash is essential) Some today are destitute in these foreign lands NOBODY compensates them.
