The Secretary General of a small faction of the MDC, Welshman Ncube has implied that his faction will likely vote for a ZANU PF parliamentary speaker and said the coalition agreement signed with the Tsvangirai led MDC is no longer valid.
Speaking to a reporter in South Africa Ncube said the MDC parliamentary coalition formed was for the run-off and nothing more.
‘…We cannot and we will not annex our votes to anyone. What was done by the leadership of the MDC . . . was to back MDC-T in the run-off. But the run-off was terminated prematurely when ZANU PF unleashed violence on the people. As things stand now, each of the MDC parties are independent of each other. Anyone who wants to work with any other will have to approach the other and have a deal. As of now, there is no deal with anyone.
‘The discussions which took place between the two elections were founded on the fact that Morgan had won the 29 March election and would win the 27 June elections. That did not happen and therefore what was agreed then does not constitute a coalition.’Ncube said.
Ncube did not explain how and why the coalition was called a parliamentary coalition when it had nothing to do with parliament.
The new revelations by Ncube differ sharply with what was expressed on Tuesday April 29 2008 by the faction leader Arthur Mutambara who said,
“We are all going to work together in case Robert Mugabe and Zanu-PF try to sabotage the will of the people. We are in control of parliament. We are also controlling the senate. This is the state of affairs in our country.”
Mutambara further dismissed that the coalition was for the runoff only telling reporters,
“The question about a runoff doesn’t arise,” he said.’ I’m here to show solidarity to the winner of the presidential election in Zimbabwe.”
Tsvangirai has already expressed concern at the sudden change of tone by the faction and doubted its reliability as a coalition partner.
“I thought we were all playing in the same court . . . But it would appear that that is not the case. They (the Mutambara faction) have other views. And I think we need to revisit the coalition agreement and ask them whether we are still together…”he said.
Metro reported two months ago that Welshman Ncube resisted the coalition and instructed all MPs not join MDC president Morgan Tsvangirai when he visits their constituencies during the run-off campaign.
Metro also established during its investigations that the factions’s national executive had argued that their faction should not have fielded candidates in Gwanda South, Redcliff and Pelandaba-Mpopoma by-elections against those of the MDC-Tsvangirai, because at least it was their candidates that had died. Ncube reportedly over ruled the decision.
Ncube also reportedly read the riot act to his faction MPs who attended the MDC caucus addressed by Tsvangirai on May 30 this year.
A rift has reportedly emerged in the faction among the unelected National Executive and its 10 MP,last month the executive fired the MP for Nkayi South, Abednico Bhebhe as spokesman after he argued that the faction’s executive was making decisions that are betrayal to its electorate.
Metro also has it on good authority that the faction has reportedly struck a deal with the Mnagangwa faction of ZANU PF. The Mnangagwa faction whose influential members include Emmerson Mnangagwa,George Charamba and Patrick Chinamasa has been trying to sabotage talks with the MDC since they started.
The development comes as the United States is considering taking the same measures against the faction members they have taken against ZANU PF.
The first move might include revoking the faction leader Arthur Mutambara’s US permanent residence.
The United states government’s Acting Deputy Spokesman Gonzalo R. Gallegos, hinted on the development in a press briefing earlier during the week,
‘We’re going to continue to watch. We’re going to continue to see what happens there. Ultimately, as I’ve said before, from here, what we want to see is that the will of the Zimbabwean people is reflected in the results of this or any talks that may take place to come to a resolution to this situation,and if anyone aids the subverting of the people’s will even if they are not from ZANU PF will face the same measures we have taken against ZANU-PF.’ said Gallegos.
The entire Mutambara MDC National Executive Council lost in the March parliamentary election and it is comprised of Arthur Mutambara,President lost Zengeza West, Gibson Sibanda,Vice President lost Nkulumane,Welshman Ncube Secretary General lost in Makokoba, Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga Deputy Secretary General lost Glen Norah,Miriam Mushayi Deputy Treasurer General lost Harare West,Jobert Mudzumwe,National Chairperson lost Masvingo Urban,Fletcher Dulini- Ncube Treasurer-General lost Lobengula-Magwegwe.

I have always said it, Welshman IS Mugabe’s CIO. He was bought out during those days of excessive demonstrations at UZ some of which were led by Mutambara (I wonder if AGO was purchased then as well?). Mutengesi, a genuine sellout.Remember how he almost got Tsvangirai to hang with the help of Ari Ben Menashe, or whatever the idiot’s name is spelt? If you remember well the events then, they started as both accused but Welsh ended up off the hook.
I know some wonder why Tsvangirai & co are not so embracing of these guys and argue it would not have got here, but the truth of the matter which they cannot explain to us is that these guys are two-headed snakes. Problem with these snakes, you can NEVER determine conclusively which direction they will move, its not guided by an inner conviction but on what is of political expediency at the time.
To the ten MPs, no need to upset the applecart. If you quit they will use MoU and appoint their own puppets. My suggestion is, come voting time, ALWAYS VOTE WITH MDC-T, in parliament and wherever. Come next election, re-integrate yourselves into MDC-T (read MDC-True). Why should these losers dictate to the Winners what to do? Your mandate is with the electorate, period.

Welshman is educated and there is not a single moment in his interview where he says i will or we will vote for zanu pf. he makes it clear that they will do what is right for the zimbabwean people meaning that if voting with zanu pf is the right thing to do then they will do it. he explains that the talks are not about any individual party but are intended to settle the deadlock temporarirly so that we can prepare the right enviroment for elections with a new people driven constitution.if you read your healine it says welshman implies—–it doesnt say that he said he will vote for zanu pf. he does say he will vote for either zanu pf or mdc-t if that is the right thing to do. mdc please learn to reason and understand facts before jumping to conclusions. some ndebeles are coming out with their usual crap too. mdc is full of these ndebeles and ex rhodesians who want to settle past scores like gukurahundi and the farm invasions. we must not be caught up in this type of war. we want real solutions for zimbabweans.

MDC vies for Speaker of House of Assembly post

THE Arthur Mutambara led MDC formation wants the post of Speaker of House of Assembly when the Seventh Parliament convenes next Monday.
The formation also said it supports the Sadc Heads of State resolution on the inter-party dialogue.
In an interview soon after the party’s national council meeting, party spokesman, Mr Edwin Mushoriwa said an MDC speaker would enable free debate in the house.
“This is one of the resolution we have made. What it means is that we will soon be approaching both Zanu-PF and the MDC-T on the proposal. The position is premised on the view that it is our party that wields the balance of power,” said Mr Mushoriwa.
Zanu-PF won 99 seats, while MDC-T has 100 seats with the MDC realising 10 seats. The other seat went to independent candidate Professor Jonathan Moyo.
Swearing in of Parliamentarians is expected to be on Monday while President Mugabe would officially open the House on Tuesday.
Mr Mushoriwa said his party supported the Sadc initiated resolution of power sharing as the only panacea to the country’s political and economic challenges.
“The National Council fully endorsed the resolution taken by Sadc Heads of State in supporting power sharing agreement as the only solution to the country’s challenges. We unequivocally support the resolution for a negotiated settlement,” he said.
The Sadc summit, which met in South Africa, endorsed the power sharing agreed during an inter-party dialogue by Zanu-PF and the two MDC formations.
The dialogue was held under the facilitation of South African president Mr Thabo Mbeki.

He is being labeled a sell out for giving Tswangirai a Prime Ministerial post when he is refusing to discuss his succession plans with Zanu pf members. RBZ sources of forex are enough to meet the needs of this elite. We do not want a Ndebele party, or a Shona party because the white world will exploit that and you will butcher each other. What happened in Matebeland in the land 1980s should not divide us as Zimbabweans, we have to overcome tribalism in Zimbabwe. let me enlighten a few-people seem to overlook obvious issues. Mdc-m may have 10 votes but these are the cricial votes as no one party has majority in parliament without them. Mugabe is clever enough to realise the importance of mdc -m and i think that is very important for mugabe to acknowledge this fact. Those who dilidaly laughing at the role MDC-M can paly will regret it in the near future.remember as of now we are not sure of the exact reasons as to why the two factions of the mdc failed to unite before the march elections…?????? Never ever underestimate zanu pf. Morgan has been on the road for too long seeking advise-at the end of the day he should have his own balls and come up with a vision for zimbabwe that the people agree with and he can be happy with because at the end of the day all he is doing by consulting odinga etc is reating friction in SADCC and other african countries. Botswana is one example of a country at odds with zimbabwe as a result of morgan’s tour of hatred campaign around africa.Kenya or should i say odinga is another one. i will leave zambia out of it for now because of the current circumstances there.How much consulting does some one with leadership qualities have to do. i think the people to consult are us zimbabweans . mugabe always consults his people -you dont see him globtrotting to afghanistan to seek advise on anything. The only way to solve the problem is by dialogue-from what i have been reading in the papers it seems we were close to a result but for minor sticking points..so why not put more enegy into trying to break the deadlock and solve the sticking points than run around the whole continent again wasting valuable fuel and causing a lot of carbo footprint along the way.this is politics of the doomed who cant think for themselves.why consult the whole world? **** all this consultation ****. if i want something , i just put it down and say guys this is my script which is driven by the people -if you dont like it then there is no deal…maybe make up one or two consessions..end of story.
