SA President Thabo Mbeki will assume the chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) this weekend, South Africa`s department of foreign affairs said on Sunday.

The department said SA will assume the chairmanship when it hosts the ordinary SADC Heads of State and Government Summit in Sandton, Gauteng next Saturday and Sunday.

The aim of the summit is to strengthen regional political and economic integration and development.

The summit will discuss political developments in the region, food security and the financing and construction of the new SADC headquarters.

Next Sunday, SADC will launch the Free Trade Area (FTA) of the Community.

The FTA will formalise the elimination of trade tariffs amongst SADC members, and enhance regional economic integration and the growth of bigger regional markets.

unrelated——botswana has been on zimbabwe’s case for some time now-it almost amounts to aggression only this time it is verbal. botswana should respect our soverignty and not poke their corrupted nose in our affairs. if i was president of zimbabwe i would look at the case carefully and warn the united nations that if this continues -then we are likely to respond and they may not like our style. there is a whole bunch of western puppets like odinga-dlakama-nigerian president and now zambia too who are interferring in our affairs. please live us alone to run our affairs.its all your lies in the media that have led us to this mess. why is it so easy for western gvts to find puppets in africa? is it the money? kunta kinte would be turning in his grave-if he knew that in this day and age africans like morgan are still being used as puppets by the whites.

botswana watch your step-if you overstep you might get knocked down….
