Train AccidentAt least 34 people were killed and 44 injured when a bus plunged into a river bed near Chivhu, a few kilometres from the spot where Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was injured and his wife, Susan, died in a March 6 car crash.

“Twenty-nine people were killed and 39 sustained various injuries when a bus travelling to Harare ploughed into Munyati River” on Wednesday, police spokesman Wayne Bvudzijena told AFP playing down the number of those who died.

He said police had set up a temporary post at the Chivhu hospitals where they are inviting relatives to come and identify bodies of the dead. Zimbabwe’s state radio is reporting a bus accident on a crumbling highway south of Harare has killed 29 people and injured 44.

The bus burst a tire and veered off the road on Wednesday a few kilometres from the spot where Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was injured and his wife, Susan, died in a March 6 car crash. Tsvangirai’s vehicle collided with a truck on the potholed road surface.

Meanwhile more than 800 passengers escaped unhurt when a Bulawayo-bound train from Victoria Falls knocked down and killed three elephants on Sunday morning.

The accident happened in the Bongoro area between Dete and Hwange’s Thompson Junction.
National Railways of Zimbabwe Public Relations Manager Mr Fanuel Masikati confirmed the accident and said no one aboard the train was hurt.

“I would like to commend the train driver for remaining calm and managing to steady the train before it struck the animals as that avoided a catastrophic incident that would have claimed human lives,” said Mr Masikati.

In 2007 two trains collided on the same railway at Dimbangombe siding and the government fudged the numbers ,the official government figures of those who perished in the accident was reported by the government to be 7,while witnesses reported that almost as many as 70 could have died.

Metro you really need new staff unless you are having financial problems and keeping madofo.

MAD MUGABE EATING A HUMBLE PIE

    By Nelson Banya

Harare – Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe made a strong call for national unity and urged Zimbabweans to help push for the lifting of sanctions imposed by the West.

In an interview with Zimbabwe’s state broadcaster ahead of Saturday’s 29th independence anniversary, Mugabe said Zimbabweans should help the government put pressure on the Western powers and work together, rather than against each other.

“The sanctions are unwarranted and it is important that we sing the same song,” Mugabe was quoted as saying in the interview which was published in the state-owned Herald newspaper. The television interview will be broadcast on Friday night.

Zimbabwe’s economy is in ruins with unemployment at around 90% and millions in need of food aid. After years of hyperinflation, prices are falling after the government abandoned the Zimbabwe dollar and allowed the use of hard currency.

The unity government formed by Mugabe and his rival Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai is seeking to rebuild the country’s shattered economy after years of hyperinflation and decline blamed on Mugabe’s mismanagement and authoritarian rule.

    Chapter of working together

The United States and the European Union have said they are waiting to see whether Mugabe is serious about sharing power with Tsvangirai in the unity government that took office in February before lifting sanctions and unblocking aid.

Mugabe said it would take time for sanctions to be lifted, even with the support of Tsvangirai and his opposition Movement for Democratic Change.

The veteran leader said Zimbabweans must work to ensure the country does not remain divided between supporters of different parties, but work together to ensure economic and social stability, boost investment to the country and control the country’s resources.

“Reality must dawn on you that the people of Zimbabwe are divided between your party and others. Instead of quarrelling and unleashing violence on each other, isn’t it better that you get together and start a chapter of working together?”

News is information with a suprising effect, if it is not then it is simply called data.
How many people have died on Masvingo road but yet you want to get cheap useless points by saying Where Susan Tsvangirai died. Please listen to our criticisms and you might get more respect. At least Guseni has listened to my advise and is now doing what I suggested, copying and pasting news from other sites. Consider him for the job at Metro, he is showing dedication to the site at least.

Zimbabwe National Army soldiers in Zimbabwe have been ordered to repay banks US$100 which authorities claim was mistakenly deposited in their accounts this week. The military personnel had found extra US$100 on top of the usual equivalent which is an allowance for all government workers.

Soldiers have been calling for a monthly payment of US$500 saying if they are not paid that much they would unleash a wave of unrest. They had threatened to revolt if their allowances were not reviewed.

Early reports from an investigation by Zimbabwe’s MDC suggest that a car crash which killed PM Morgan Tsvangirai’s wife may not have been accidental.

The car carrying Mr Tsvangirai and his wife was hit by a lorry on a main road south of Harare.

The MDC now believes that the man driving the lorry was an ex-soldier who had replaced the usual driver a short time before.

According to a senior source, when Mr Tsvangirai’s convoy reached a long, straight stretch of road his escort car, supplied by Zimbabwe’s Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) suddenly speeded up and drove on out of sight.

Soon afterwards a lorry appeared, coming fast over the brow of a hill from the opposite direction.

It sideswiped Mr Tsvangirai’s car, and knocked it off the road.

Mrs Tsvangirai was killed outright, and her husband was injured.

Yet a senior MDC source claims that the CIO guards did not get out to help, and that when a local white farmer arrived and filmed the scene, he was arrested and his pictures confiscated.
