MDC Faction leader Arthur Mutambara told reporters on Monday that his faction supports the demands of Tsvangirai’s mainstream MDC as a regional bid to resolve Zimbabwe’s unity government deadlock was under way Monday.
“We support those demands. We hope and trust Robert Mugabe and his party will be able to respond positively to the demands,” Mutambara said.
But while Mutambara called for “flexibility, compromise and pragmatism” the state-run Herald has labelled the talks as “D-Day”, with Mugabe and Tsvangirai saying the meeting could be the last attempt to make the September deal work.
Mugabe threatened Sunday to break off power-sharing talks if the opposition declined a deal, saying “either they accept or it’s a break” in the government mouthpiece Sunday Mail newspaper.
Tsvangirai’s MDC meanwhile, insisted it would not join a unity government until all its concerns had been addressed — including allegations that its supporters had been abducted and tortured by state security agents.
Motlanthe, Mbeki and Guebuza were to meet the Zimbabwe leaders before negotiating teams for the three parties tackle the details of their differences.
Mugabe and Tsvangirai have yet to agree on how to share power within cabinet despite repeated interventions by African leaders.
“The meeting of the leaders will be followed by a meeting of the negotiating teams which is expected to discuss outstanding matters related to the implementation of the global agreement,” said South African government spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa.
Included in talks would be a constitutional amendment that would give effect to the power-sharing arrangement ahead of a parliamentary session on Tuesday, he added.
The agreement calls for 84-year-old Mugabe to remain president while Tsvangirai would take the new post of prime minister.

In case some of you have forgotten about the October 2008 list and how it has evolved. Its interesting to spot the differences.

I still don’t trust Mutambara. !!!
Mutambara will say he supports the Sadc decision at the end of the day.
mutambara should be on the side of zimbabweans and what they want. He does not have to support morgan after all they have always had their differences. How come at this moment mdc supporters are ok with what mutambara says? If i recall very well he has been called all sorts of names for daring to speak his mind and criticising morgan for flip flopping. It just shows how sahllow minded and desparate for power the mdc hooligans are
Mutambara has every right to criticise morgan or mugabe
you have evrery right to criticise morgan -but you are terrified so he has become a dictator.
no one is beyond criticism-even mugabe who has been criticised like no other world leader in living memory.
if the mdc are ****ing up and not putting the needs of the people ahead of party interests , then Mutambara should criticise.
why do you give hin cuddles when he speaks out against mugabe but nothing but hatred when he dares speak out against you uneducated president of the mdc -morgan? Honest responses or dont bother.
why did he not demand all this before signing the mou? what a shame -this guy is a useless human being!!! why wait for now?
We dont need support from unrepentent sell outs like Mutambara , thank you very much!! He must just come out and declare his treasonous ways without seeking useless headlines in the media. In any case, who does he represent when the people rejected him on 29 March 2008? To some of us he is just part of the problem that is designed to delay the people’s march to freedom. History will judge him harshly because Zimbabweans are sick and tired of his vacillations and his incessant quest to become a SOMEBODY by hook or crook!! We shall never afford him the luxury of being part of the leadership of a free and democratic Zimbabwe.
Ndarasika pama points ababa black sheep about Mutambara. I failed to get kuti baba black sheeo varikuti who said what when and why? I also failed to get kuti avarikuti MDC supporters dzoda AGO ndedzipi. Pamwe ndaverenga ndisina magirazi
