Harare, November 15, 2009 – President Robert Mugabe was on Saturday nominated un-opposed for the post of President by all the provinces of his Zanu PF party.

Some provinces however failed to conclude the nomination of candidates for the central committee and presidium, a clear sign that there were still wide divisions in the party.
Vice President Joice Mujuru appeared set to retain her position, after she was endorsed unanimously in five provinces. Her major rival, Emmerson Mnangagwa’s name did not appear among the names that had been confirmed by Saturday night.
Mujuru was nominated unopposed in Manicaland, Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North, Harare and Mashonaland West. She however lost by a wide margin in Masvingo, where the province nominated Oppah Muchinguri for the VP. Results were not immediately available from Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East and Bulawayo. In Midlands, the nominations failed to take off, and were postponed to November 21.
There was chaos at Chiefs’ Hall in Masvingo as Zanu PF top officials nearly exchanged blows when Mujuru had lost to Muchingri. Dzikamai Mavhaire who was openly campaining for Mujuru was visibly bitter and he threatened to take action against the results that he claimed were rigged in favour of Muchinguri.
“Mujuru is associated with wrong people, she is always in this province but with wrong people,” said a source to Radio VOP.
There are two rival factions in Masvingo- one led by Mavhaire and the other being led by Josiah Hungwe- sanator for Chivi Mwenezi constituency.
John Nkomo also had a reasonable lead in the race for the other position of VP. Nkomo beat Naison Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu in Mat South. He was also nominated unopposed in Masvingo and Manicaland. Other provinces are said to be waiting for the outcome from the other provinces.
In Matabeleland North, the province failed to agree on the choice for the second VP and national chairman, resulting in the submission of two names for each of the positions. John Nkomo and Naison Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu’s names were submitted for the VP, while Mines Minister Obert Mpofu and Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to South Africa Simon Khaya Moyo were named for the chairmanship.
In Matabeleland South, Moyo was nominitated for the chairmanship, beating Home Affairs co-Minister, Kembo Mohadi and Mine Minister Obert Mpofu.
In Harare and Mashonaland West, the selection of national chairman and the other VP was not concluded. Sources said the provinces were still waiting for the outcome from Bulawayo, where the process went on till late.

It would be intresting if Mugabe could at the congress tell his guys that he is humbled by the nomination but that he would however like to rest and write his memoirs. I am sure a lot of people would be very happy. Let someone else take over the party and he finishes off the term of the GNU so that the new party leader would be ready by the time of the elections.
*** Had forgotten that wishfull thinking does not count nemwana waBona.chuckle!!!!******
Margaret Dongo was very right. All ZANOIDS are Mugabe’s wives. How can they fail to see that at 85+ he cant think anymore. Shame ZANU(PF)
He can retain whatever sheet he wishes in his life but not a journey to London ever in his life time.
\the journey to London is his no1 wish.
Mugabe is now the oldest president in the world. In Rhodesia people used to alter their date of birth in order to avoid problems at school. Most people would go to school at 14 and lie that they were 8 years old. Mugabe is officially 85 but he may be much older than that. I have seen people who are 80 years having a problem of memory loss and Mugabe must be having these problems as it is natural. 85 years is a lot of time, it is 3 generations. There is no future for Zanu Pf youths.
You have not read the political situation in Zanu well enough. Non of the aspiring presidential candidates Mujuru and Ngwena want old man Bob to go. If he goes now that will be the end for them, hence the retaining unopposed. I have followed Zanu cogresses for a very long time and those who say the people in Zanu are afraid of Mugabe dont know what they are talking about at all. There is always frank and open discussion at these cogresses. I will refer you to last year’s cogress when Mugabe was openly challenged over the Jabulani Sibanda issue which was beamed live on ZTV.
What is happening is that the whole organisation realises there must be leadership renewal and these factions have to fight to get to power but at the same time preserving the organisation.
Its true Mugabe must be older than 85. Mugabe’s mother used to state clearly that she does not know who told her son when he was born. According to her, she did not know which was typical of the time Mugabe was born. The only time your birth becomes important is when you go to Standard 5, currently Grade 7. At that time everyone was forced to get a birth certificate which says that you are 14 years old. It was just that or you dont proceed with education. It was natuarl for most black children to start school (Sub A) when they are 9 years or 10 years. Therefore it is very likely that Mugabe is at least 3 years more than what he tells us. MDC-T should be celebrating. They will have the same insane old person in the ring during next elections. Lets have them in two years’ time when at least he is able to walk because it will be naive to assume that in the next 5 years Mugabe will still be walking. ZANU(PF) should get real.
Sheppy why are you bothered who zanu pf choose to be their candidate in the next elections? I suggest you check when Mugabe’s mother died to get a picture of how long he can live. Was in not csome 7 or so years ago that we were told than he was collapsing due to old age? Where are we today? He will contest and ‘win’ again and you and me will be on this forum talking for the next 10 years with that old man still in his position. I suggest your party comes with better strategies than to wait for him to die because that may be a long wait my chief.
I personally would want him to step down from the party leadership and give the next person time to prepare for the next election while he finished off this GNU circus. That way he will save himself the trouble he went through in June 2008. But hey, this is Robert Mugabe we are talking about.
who is robert mugabe abel, all his silly tricks are under check now. He used to fool the world but not anymore, he is not enjoying being president like he used to long ago. He has no friends to cry on now, no sane person wants to be linked to this old man. He will not survive the next elections that I can confirm, he cannot live forever.
ana Guseni!! You show that you have run out of ideas on removing that old timer. Even you cannot live forever, that goes without saying. Is that your strategy as MDC? That Mugabe cannot live forever. We have been hearing this (he wont win next election) nonsense since the 2000 elections but it seems munongopinzwa the same deya every time.we are used to you.
P.S Guseni, I am proud to be linked to that old timer. chuckle!!!!!!
“There is always frank and open discussion at these congresses. I will refer you to last year’s congress when Mugabe was openly challenged over the Jabulani Sibanda issue which was beamed live on ZTV.”
^^^^
There’s “open” discussion of issues that do not affect his position and post!!
“What is happening is that the whole organisation realises there must be leadership renewal”
ReNEWal is derived from the word “NEW”. What renewal are you talking about when the same OLD leadership is around? “Leadership reOLDal” is more appropriate!

***And you have the guts to call yourself ruzivo, ha ha ha***
Welcome back vakuru chaivo, pachipamwe bhururu.leadership reOldal.hahahahahahah
Congress or no congress, election or no election, these geriatrics arent going nowhere. Remember they were the futre once!! Indeed there was a time when they could have heroically passed on the mantle to the promising young men and women that once swelled Zanu’s rank and file (and oh, boy has there been many such young men and women!!). But today these geriatrics are now the curse of the land; reproducing only after their own evil kind -be it in the army, police, prison service, green bomber camps, etc. Is it any wonder that Zanu does not have any smart credible young men in its most powerful positions? Ndidzo nyoka huru dzinozviruma idzi, kunge tsuro dzinodya vana vadzo!!! Today every single one of these geriatrics has closets that are teeming with skeletons of what they have plundered, ruined and destroyed. And so, they are going to cling on to power until they are forgetful, confused, or otherwise mentally less acute in later life – then they will be deemed senile and avoid being held accountable for anything, or worse still they cling on until they die. They are so very lucky they are ruling a country of very patient citizens!!!

AND YET YOU SAY YOU DON’T SUPPORT ZANU PF. SO WHY WORSHIP THE OLD TIMER???
The old timer is the sovereign amongst the masters when it comes to the game of politics. I admire people who excel in whatever they decide to embark upon.Supporting him or not is a different ball game.
Mugabe and Zanu pf are also different my chief, I dont know which part is confusing you.
In a polarised environment like this , if I were to choose between the two, I would choose Zanu pf anyday.Happy Now???
