Buoyed by the backing of 9 Mutambara MDC MPs MDC National Chairman, Lovemore Moyo has been elected speaker of parliament.

Moyo becomes the first opposition speaker since the country’s independence in 1980.

It is suspected the only Mutambara MDC MP who did not vote for Moyo was Bulilima MP,Moses Mzila Ndlovu. Initial observatons indicate that at least two ZANU PF MPs voted for Moyo and independent Tsholotsho MP Jonathan Moyo has since told the press he voted for Nyathi.

It was a dramatic vote, as some Mutambara MDC MPs before folding their ballots, flashed them towards MDC Vice President Thokozani Khuphe and their MDC-T colleagues as they voted.

Moyo won with 110 votes, against 98 for Paul Themba Nyathi from the Mutambara MDC faction out of the 208 ballots cast.

Speaking soon after being elected, Lovemore Moyo thanked the legislators for showing their confidence in him by voting for him.

Moyo said he will handle the position with professionalism for the benefit of ordinary Zimbabweans.

MDC MP for Mzingwane, Nomalanga Mzilikazi Khumalo grabbed the deputy speaker position.Khumalo was early this year reprimanded by Party secretary General Welshman Ncube for accompanying Tsvangirai and his team in a tour of her constituncy during the presidentail run-off election campaign.

As the MPs arrived for the ceremony, two MDC law-makers were arrested, a party spokesman, Nelson Chamisa, MDC-Kuwadzana., said.

President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF did not field a candidate for the vote, but backed a rival MDC faction.

“Mr Speaker, Sir. This is a truly historic event and I would like, on behalf of the president, our party and this side of this august House, to congratulate you,” Zanu-PF’s Rural Housing Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa said in parliament, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile as expected ZANU-PF candidate Edna Madzongwe received 58 votes against 28 votes cast for a candidate from opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change to take the senate presidency.

*Update Moyo voted for Nyathi

Honourable President Morgan Tsvangirai, do not sign that document untill it stipulates that you will have total control and responsability for the country in your capacity as the elected president of Zimbabwe by the people of Zimbabwe. As soon as possible a fresh free and fair election must be held so as to enable the people of Zimbabwe to rid the country of the zanu scum.Let the true will of the Zimbabwe people be shown to the world.Do not bow down to that scumbag mugabe as he is now hanging on by the skin of his teeth for his own life.Let him suffer as he has made others suffer. The new era has begun.

The unelected cheating selfimposed unrecognised mugabe is not the president. He can call himself what he wants but he is not recognised and never will be recognised as the president of Zimbabwe. We will never shake hands with zanu scumbags but we will slowly weed them out and deal with them.mugabe from lion to mouse. From rule and roar to beg and squeak.Just another scumbag.

Baba I need yr intellectual brains to go through this Article and comment. Please use yr brains not otherwise!

The behaviour of those in opposition politics has given us insights into the kind of society they would foster if they were to come to power: it is a society we should never allow.
A lot of terrible and shameful things and, at times, criminal acts have been done in the name of opposition politics with no condemnation or apology or contrition from the opposition, particularly the MDC-T leadership.
The MDC campaigned vigorously alongside former British premier Tony Blair in Abuja, Nigeria, for the unfair continued suspension of Zimbabwe from the councils of the Commonwealth against the majority opinion of progressive leaders including South African President Thabo Mbeki, who fought for the lifting of the unjust suspension. Zimbabwe’s suspension was extended and we saw the MDC lot celebrating that they had ‘‘triumphed’’ over Zanu-PF and President Mugabe.
They did not care about the unfairness of the process; all they wanted was to score cheap points against the Government in boasting of such an ‘‘achievement’’.
That is what opposition politics is about in the eyes of the neophytes.
They went on to lobby for economic sanctions and the expulsion of innocent children from Western universities. They have done the same with the recent deportation of journalist Caesar Zvayi from Botswana. To them, that is cause for celebration and myopic MDC supporters, sympathisers and backers have devoted acres of space on some online websites to unfairly attacking and criticising Zvayi and commending Botswana President Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s barbaric behaviour.
Of course, it is undisputed that Botswana is a sovereign nation which has the right to determine who to expel from their country and who to allow in but the manner in which Zvayi’s expulsion was executed was barbaric and vindictive. Even those in the European Union, on the basis of whose sanctions Khama acted, do not treat their illegal immigrants with such barbarism. The practice in civilised democracies is that when one is in a country legally, a deportation order is served allowing ample or reasonable time to challenge the legality of the order and for one to leave the country on his/her own, failing which he/she would be forcibly deported. It is unforgivable that Khama chose to treat Zvayi like an illegal immigrant.Since Botswana expelled Zvayi on the basis of EU sanctions, does that mean they would do the same for the other 139 Zimbabweans, including President Mugabe, who are on that list?
We all know Zvayi and Munyaradzi Huni were included on the EU sanctions list as part of the EU’s regime change agenda. The pair’s critical, objective and enlightening analysis of the West, former US ambassador James McGee and Zimbabwe’s politics in general, made them targets of an EU that wants to hear only what it wants.
Zimbabweans should learn that opposition politics is not about fighting your own fellow Zimbabweans, even in foreign lands.
It is healthy in a democracy to have a diversity of views and debate. It is a battle of facts, a projection of wisdom. When American soldiers are held hostage in Iraq, the whole US fights for their release even those who opposed the war. They will never say let the hostages suffer because they were not supposed to be there.
The mentality of triumphing by whatever means over anything one views as inclined to Zanu-PF should stop and logic, common sense and humanity should prevail.

…………………and those who withdraw for the run-off should not be considered as president because according to the constitution under Zim elections if there is no one pronounced a winner / who scores 50+% re-election is a must! but alas someone whose interest is to make happy those from far away world withdrew from competetion, and made headlines all-over media fratenity. but to whose benefit? if i may ask, is it to the Zimbabweans or people from far away world?

  8. scarface says:

I dont understand all this fuss….have the speakers position-so what? its not a problem is it? Mugabe is still the boss -zanu pf control the senate and the other mdc-m will also have a view positions here and there thanks to bob’s generosity. As far as i am concerned this is as good as it gets for zimbabwe. Those waiting for miorgan to gatecrash the party without a passport are wasting time. Today is the opening of parliament with or without the MDC. Yesterday they were quite happy to be awarded their gongs for parliament-why did they not boycott the whole thing? Now they want to boycott opening of parliament—these people are fools…ill advised. have you noticed how the BBC has begun to focus on zimbabwe so soon after the olympics. They abandoned us all through out the olympics but now they are back. What is their agenda?

I am just happy that we blacks are on top of the world right now–obama might win in america—–bolt blew them away—-we rule hip hop—mugabe is still the king in zim.dont let puppets spoil it…morgan-odinga-zuma-kharma. puppets against black power.now they are trying to take out barrack obama. scarface did tell you that things will get tough as you get to november.this is just the beginning for obama but he must hang on in there –it will not be easy.

zimbabwe now has all the mechanisations for a democratic gvt with all the opposition parties having a positive role to play if they choose to. Puppets like morgan always want to spoil the fun but we will soon bring him down to earth. go on Bob and start the ball rolling. let parliament begin.

  9. Baba says:

According to the Zimbabwe constitution the results of the election should have been known to the public within 7 days of the election taking place.According to the Zimbabwe constitution a rerun should have taken place within 21 days of the election results been known.According to the Zimbabwe constitution the campaining and voting should be deemed to be free and fair by all parties.zanu broke all these rules and so according to the Zimbabwe constitution the sham rigged rerun cannot be accepted as a legitimate result. These are the laws drawn up by the zanu government that they themselves do not follow. The withdrawing of Morgan Tsvagirai from the rerun was due to zanu breaking all the rules of the Zimbabwe constitution. This was done in the interest of the Zimbabwe people and the rest of the world to show them just what kind of a cheat mugabe and his donkeys are.The cheat in the end will always lose.

  10. morgidza tsvangwa says:

baba, according to Zim constitution the results of the election should be out within 7 days yes we all agree but why is not wrong in the eyes of the west and MDC that someone from an opposition party announce wrong results yet results should be announced by ZEC and some election obsevers paid in forex to fix other parties? ZANU PF is well known for its violent campaigns while MDC is a “Christian party” oh my God had people known… we all know how all those diasporians out there got their “tickets” its a pity MDC cooked up all the dramas! its a pity baba! well why? do i copy those doc its for people like you who blablablabla about Herald to read some of good articles about ZANU PF!

  11. morgidza tsvangwa says:

The Robert Mugabe I know today is the same man Zimbabwe fell in love with 28 years ago. He’s the same man who drove Zimbabwe again under evil sanctions from UK, USA and “puppets” MDC 10 years ago , inching along at a snail’s pace, peering anxiously at us in the rearview mirror, feeling the whole weight of sanctions and Zimbabwean’s future in his hands.” Long Live Cde RG Mugabe! pamberi nemi Cde!

  12. Baba says:

mugabe will not live long. His life is near to its end.Yes he held Zimbabwe’s future in his hands and totaly destroyed it at a snails pace.morgidza, did you fall in love with this scumbag because you are gay.The results that MDC gave out at the correct time after the election were the correct results. The results anounced by ZEC after the long delay were ficticious results dreamt up by them after stuffing the ballot boxes because they had reallized that MDC had won by such a huge amount. They could not anounce that MDC had won because they were been paid off by mugabe to make sure that MDC did not have sufficient votes to take over the presidency. This is why the rerun was full of corruption, murder, rape and intimidation committed by zanu because they now knew the truth that they had no chance of winning the election. They had finally reallized that the people of Zimbabwe no longer respected or wanted zanu.AS for your articles about zanu poofters, there is no such thing as a good article about zanu poofters. That is why we do not read the herald. The days of zanu propaganda are over so we will only read the papers that print the truth. It is not even worth buying the herald to wipe your backside with although what you would leave on it would be the same as what is printed on it.mugabe said MDC would never govern Zimbabwe while he was alive.I take it that he expects to die soon, lets all hope so for the good of the country.

  13. Morgidza Tsvangwa says:

Little minds are easily colonised! I rest my case with you “baba” might end up colonised. I will never support MDC come change of us Zimbabweans walking on streets made of gold! The way they behaved in Parly yesterday leaves a lot on genuine Zimbabweans what sort of behaviour? Talks will not hold anything of importance as of now. If they want war or civil war let there be because Tsvangirayi is busy soliciting Odinga to have the tactics! we are thousand times ready to defend what we term Zimbabwe! Its war now. I declare war!!!!!!!!

  14. Morgidza Tsvangwa says:

Life Will Always Be Working Out for Me. . .

I like understanding that things are always evolving, and while there are many things that could be better where I am, it is not really a problem because “where I am” is constantly changing to something better. I like knowing that as I look for the best things around me where I am, those things become more prevalent in my experience.
It is fun to know that things are always working out for me, and as I watch for the evidence of that . . . I see more evidence of that every day.

  15. Morgidza Tsvangwa says:

    Baba part of the speech!

    Madam President, Mr Speaker, Sir,

The elections are now behind us. What currently is upon us is the challenge of a common vision and effort. The era of specialists who are heavy on critiques and empty on prescriptions is gone. Now is the time for us to put Zimbabwe first, and challenging the many things that stifle our potential and trammel our energies.
Foremost in this regard are the much-reviled illegal sanctions imposed by Britain and her allies, which seek to subvert the will of the Zimbabwean people. These must go. They cannot last a day longer if we, as true Zimbabweans speak against them in deafening unison.
Surely, sanctions cannot be good for any Zimbabwean, and we have abundant evidence of their ravaging impact. We cannot need democracy and condone such blatant spiteful injury at the same time.
We are deeply indebted to Sadc, the African Union, members of the Non-Aligned Movement, our allies in the United Nations Security Council, and other progressive peoples of the world, for their invaluable support and solidarity with us, in the face of the vicious onslaught on Zimbabwe by Britain and the United State of America. We cherish their brotherly advice and support, and pledge that we will not let them down.

  16. Baba says:

Morgidza.I noticed that you do not condemn the behaviour of zanu during the elections or the rerun of the elections.Their behaviour then seems to slip your mind. There is no comparison between the behaviour of MDC and zanu.If MDC started to beat and murder opposition members of parliament then we would stand up against them as that kind of behaviour would not be acceptable to us MDC supporters. We are a peace loving party and words alone will destroy zanu scum.Already zanu members of parliament are crossing the road to support MDC as they now know that MDC is the only way forward to a peacefull and prosperous Zimbabwe. You are very dissgruntled because of the fact that the party you support is now the losing party. When you beat and maim people how do you expect to gain their support.Morgidza, you can declare war but the honest truth is that the soldiers want peace. They are not going to fight a war against the very people that they are there to protect. You must understand that they and their families are also suffering because of scumbag mugabe and his scumbag party. They are going to defend their right to a free and fair life under the free and fair leadership of the almighty MDC.

  17. Baba says:

Morgidza. This is how scumbag mugabe’s speech should have started.

The sham and rigged elections that i won are now behind us.What currently is upon us is the fact that the people of Zimbabwe no longer support us or our vision to destroy them for the sake of my power. Now is the time for Zimbabwe to come first which goes against all of our beliefs as we have never put Zimbabwe first in our 28 years of murderous rule.(we must full our pockets first) I know that we said we don’t care about the legal targeted sanctions but now we do because we can no longer full our pockets with all the money that we rob from the country.Sanctions are not good for us zanu politicians and we have abundant evidence of their ravaging impact on our pockets. We are deeply indebted to sadc, the african union, members of the non-aligned movement our allies in the united nations security council and other unprogressive people of the world for their invaluable support and solidarity with us ,in the face of the vicious onslaught on Zimbabwe by myself and my scumbag party zanu pf.We will never support them and pledge that we will always let them down.

  18. morgidza tsvangwa says:

In the eys of the west MDC you are # one! In the eys of Africans Zanu PF is # one! cling to your Western idology and as Zanu PF will guard Zimbabwe with all the hope that future is all we want for Zimbabwean Children! ZANU PF lets forget about this puppet party, let it serve its masters first, but Zimbabwe will not be taken even an inch and will never be a colony again!!!!!

  19. Baba says:

Morgidza. In the eyes of the majority of Zimbabwean Africans which is almost the entire country MDC is # one.In the eyes of the minority zanu supporters zanu pf is # one.Ziimbabwe will one day be free of zanu scum and then it can move forward.

  20. morgidza tsvangwa says:
