MDC and ZANU PF are close to a deal on forming a cabinet and “history is being made” in negotiations between President Robert Mugabe and rival Morgan Tsvangirai, the MDC Chief Negotiator said on Wednesday.
Asked about sticking points in the talks, he said: “A whole basket of rotten tomatoes, onions and so on.”
Asked by reporters when talks aimed at rescuing a power-sharing deal would be sealed, MDC chief negotiator Tendai Biti said: “If you pray hard, tomorrow. History is being made and mountains are being moved.”
Mugabe and Tsvangirai are holding talks in Harare mediated by former South African President Thabo Mbeki after the pact he brokered last month faltered over a dispute about cabinet posts.
Analysts say the deal is Zimbabwe’s best hope for halting an economic meltdown marked by the world’s highest inflation of 231 million percent and severe food, fuel and foreign currency shortages.
Arthur Mutambara, leader of a splinter MDC faction who is also taking part in the talks, said the parties were “very close” to an agreement.
“We’ve had a very long and productive day, we’ve made progress. We’re very close and our discussions will continue tomorrow,” he said.
Almost eight hours of talks ended without a breakthrough on Wednesday, the second day of negotiations. But they will resume on Thursday at 0930 GMT, Tsvangirai said, adding: “there are some matters still outstanding.”

Biti and those close to Tsvangirai are known to have ‘made a mistake’ in advising him to sign an incomplete deal last time around.We hope they dont repeat this or else we will know for ourselves who the real traitors are.
Zimbabweans will never give up hope. If it was another country, by now there will be smell of blood in every corner. It has never been so bad for the people since 1980.

Lets hope a deal is finally clinched. There will.,however, be a lot of questions that need answering.
1. Why was Mugabe in a hurry to form a cabinet long before the initial deal was signed only to be the major stumbling block after the deal had been signed?
2. What is the role of the JOC in all these delays?
3. What guarantees will be put in place to ensure that neither party takes unilateral decisions in future?
4. Given the current state of our country with non-functioning schools, health centers and almost every other sector, if there is an improvement after formation of the new cabinet, who will get the credit?
Never trust Mugabe he is a marxist who will fool everybody and the next morning he remains the same. Whenever he agrees to something he knows the loopholes. Let the deal work first and we talk of history Mr Biti, less we forget Joshua Nkomo, Less we forget that Zvobgo even drafted the executive powers when Mugabe had promised him the presidency,Less we forget how the recent allocation of all powerful ministries to his own part. Biti says too much. He gets carried away and will regret if there are no mountains that would have been moved and no history being made when the deal is out. He will have egg in the face. A rotten one for that matter.
Morgan was not wrong in signing the ‘Half-Baked Deal’. If someone steals money from you or owes you money and after lengthy negotiations they decide to return or payback part of the amount, take it (its yours) and negotiate for the remaining balance.

Mugabe is the only legally recognized figure in terms of the constitution of Zim, Morgan is only a designate so too is Mutambara. This means Mugabe can dictate if he so wishes(like publishing ministries in Herald nonsense) and stick to that, abaiwa ngaabude, who cares even makadyanana, But what he did as a statesman he used to be( some straits still there) he allowed a sxul dropout-cum-sell out and an unwanted robotics scientist( haaunze hupfu muzim) to negotiate the future of u and me. so Mugabe is negotiating. I hope when this one is signed we will not hear cry babay chamisa again calling for mbeki to mediate. You sign what is in front of you and if you dont understand it ask for time out.
