Reserve governor Gideon Gono will step down on Thursday this week two months before his second term at the helm of the Central bank expires, sources revealed to Metro.

MDC secretary general Tendai Biti who is highly tipped to take over as Minister of Finance in the new all inclusive government early this year blamed Gono for Zimbabwe’s economic woes.

“Gono is the number one enemy of this country, not inflation,” Biti,MDC-Harare East said. “He has been stoking the fires of inflation through quasi-fiscal activities.

Banker and MDC senior official Elton Mangoma who could be appointed Minister of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion is a vocal critic of the central bank chief and called Gono’s recent monetary policy statement, inconsequential “tinkering” with the symptoms of the problem.

Sources speculated that Gono will likely be replaced by deputy governor, Edward Mashiringwani as acting governor until a suitable replacement is found.

Mashiringwani who last year made headlines by invading a farm owned by Louis Fick a white farmer, contradicting calls by Gono to stop farm invasions blamed for destroying the agricultural sector will not take over as governor as it is envisaged that the new governor will have to be apolitical and a professional.

Already Western governments and donors have indicated that the removal of Gono, will be “one of the key indices” that they will use to judge whether the newly constituted government is genuinely reformed and a fit recipient for aid.

Since taking over as governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in 2003, Gono has implemented a host of highly-criticized policies. The main criticism comes from the apparent failure of his policies to reverse the economic decline of Zimbabwe. Since he became governor, there have been a number of problems:
- cash shortages
- fuel and food scarcity, shortages in agriculture
- Operation Murambatsvina, which some say was funded by the RBZ
-Banker and businessmen have been arrested by the police and army under Gono’s orders
-Some Zimbabweans have become fugitives or have languished in prison, notably Mutumwa Mawere, James Makamba, Philip Chiyangwa and David Batau
-The highest inflation in the world and unemployment and the collapse of the health, education and agriculture sectors.
-A number of banks have been raided and their operating licences cancelled
-Bankrolling Mugabe ’s highly discredited one candidate Run-off election.

  3. I believe he has stolen millions of US$ and £sterling and stashed it somewhere. he should be thoroughly investigated. He thought his job was parceling forex to ZanuPF Chefs and parceling luxuries to Judges and traditional ‘Zanu’ chiefs and War ‘terror’ Vets.

  4. At least Mugabe has seen the light he must be cogratulated for that. He has been man enough at last. 6. MDC National Council endorses political deal

    14th September 2008 - MDC Pressroom

The MDC National Council, the party’s supreme decision-making body, today endorsed the SADC-brokered political settlement that is expected to be signed in Harare tomorrow.

Today’s national council meeting was preceded by a meeting of the national executive where President Morgan Tsvangirai explained the political deal. The President also made a similar presentation before the national council, where the deal was also endorsed.

The National Council resolved the following:

    NOTING the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on 21 July 2008 by the principals of the three political parties in the dialogue;

    FURTHER NOTING the arrival at a power sharing deal on 11 September 2008;

    NOW THEREFORE

    1. The MDC national council endorses the agreement arrived at in the inter-party talks
    2. The MDC national council expresses its profound gratitude to the negotiation team and congratulates the team for a job well done.
    3. The MDC national council further empowers the negotiating team to hammer out the finer details of the agreement such as the issue of governors and other portfolios of governme

  8. I shall remember Gideon Gono not with love and appreciation but with hatred and disgust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Chiwenga,Chihuri,Zimondi and Shiri should follow suit.

  10. People of noble mind don’t shout but let justice take its course. Leave all the investigations to the professional police, do not judge or jump to conclusions etc.
I know how painfull it is but lets be mindful
    God bless

  11. Gono is a goner!

Where is scarface? That poor guy, he is now unemployed. The CIO has been disbanded ..so he is looking for a job.

Can somebody please find Scarface a job? He is not capable of putting in honest hard work, so the job must be something a lazy man can do. However, he can talk BS and bamboozle if needed.

  12. It

  13. I think it`s too early let`s all wait for the signing tomorrow, Mr Scarface is still around he is waiting for the final deal just like many other Zimbabweans. They deal is the best solution for our nation & our parents back home.

  14. My suggestions for the position;

    Nigel Chanakira
    Tony Hawkins

  15. Hi guys sorry that you miss me. I am ok as usaul. I am happy that we have signed a deal even if its with puppets . I hate to see my people suffering. Now we look forward to making more money in the puppet infected zimbabwe. we are zanu pf and we survive under all conditions -we have degrees unlike some who struggle to put a few o levels together.

What is all this fuss about Gono? Is there anyone in the MDC who is more educated than him? Is there anyone in Mdc who could have managed to run a reserve bank with no foreign currency as a result of ten years of sustained sanctions? Just the fact he survived for so long with all the politics involved shows he has character. such man are few in zimbabwe. When a gvt is run by men of no character the end is pretty much predictable.Forein currency will pour in but remember its not for free. Food will be back on the table within a year that is easy.We will have jobs -plenty because there is 80-90% unemployment thats easy. The first two years in gvt should be easy. When all that is set its then down to building sustainable growth. You will need your farms firing on all cylinders - how? how long will it take to educate the resettled farmers? will you kick them out of their farms? what will happen to the white farmers who are ready to return? Green bombers -we call them youth service brigade-war vets? there are issues to deal with. Zanu pf is not like Mdc -if you **** up we are quite militant and we will take to the streets immediately. We are not cowards as you all know by now. if you dont know that then you better learn quick.

Mugabe told you -never mix water with oil- ball point pen vs bullet- chibhakera vs mbama-puppets vs national heroes-magwara vs vakashingamoyo-zanu vs mdc.we need to solve these opposing forces otherwise we are in trouble.

Gono my friend-you are filthy rich-intelligent-smart-even the IMF might give you a job. If a individual can run an economy under severe sanctions for as long as you did and still be smiling at the end of it then you must have plenty to offer the world.God bless you and we all knew you would be stepping in september a long time ago. Some lack a bit of education so they are always caught on the hoof.

Benzi rawo tomorrow will sign a deal that will legitimise our life time president once and for all.there are some who wanted our r.g.m to be gone for ever but tomorrow they will fail.Morgan has realised he can not defeat this true son of Africa who has charatcer and leads by example.Tony blair failed-Brown has failed-bush has failed-John major -failed-thatcher-failed.Oh my god what a hero we have in zanu pf-thank you bob for standing up for the black people of zimbabwe and africa. Some will learn from your ways that African is not for sale.By protecting zimbabweans from expoloitation you also encourage other African states to follow suit. YOU R.G.M are a true son of Africa. You suffered under the racists-took them on and beat them.today you are continuing with your agenda of empowering black people of africa so they can be trully independent.Carry on mr President.

the deal you signed on 9/11 was for the people of zimbabwe whom you always put first. And for that we thank you cmde president.slowly but surely we will deal with those puppets.

  16. MDC i know guys this big mouth Scarface must be known, Because he is not wise he must have spoken to some of you guys openly thinking that Mugabe was going to rule for ever, now that Mugabe will be history soon. Please can someone tell us who this scarface is, these are the people we must first deal with. They are the people who made Mugabe ruin our beautiful country. Scarface consider yourself dead. we will get you no matter what. i know you are not in Zim but the day you put your ugly foot there you will be nomore withing an hour. please guys be on the look out for this idiot. He still has the guts to talk, we all remember how he used to insult our President Morgan. We just cannot swallow that. They started the fight now its our turn to perfect it.ViVA MDC now is the time to turn the country around for the better but lets not forget what Zanu did to our people.

  17. Sungai bavha idzi please ane hupfumi hwedu uyu Gono, He is a prof criminal

  18. Great news, the hypocritical looting personal banker masquarading as a central bank governor should have long gone by now if only he was a professional and had the conscience. He has long overstayed our welcome. On a parting note like the robber who repented on the last minute, Gono must adjust the withdrawal limit accordingly to alleviate the suffering of the masses and maybe we will reserve a place for him in the dustbins of history

  19. Inflation iya yazodzika manje. This is the guy responsible for all the economic problems Zimbabwe has been suffering. Imagine the tata mahindras and the cao(china automobile association) vehicles used in the last election to maim and kill innocent civilains were obtained through rbz(gono)

  20. God works wonders, the tea boy has finally woken up to the realities of this world, that you cannot be in a deep slumber forever. Surely a place must be reserved in the Genis Book of World Records for the world record breaking total failure who failed the University of Zimbabwe as the UZ Council Chairman, failed ZBC, failed his kids’s tertiary education and finally failed the country as the RBZ governor. May be he will be celebrated in history for sending failing records tumbling and earning a hard earned place in the book of world records

  21. Again someone else takes Mugabes FALL HA HA

  22. I’M SKEPTICAL STILL. I WILL ONLY BELIEVE WHEN HE WILL HAVE ACTUALLY RESIGNED.

  23. Fambai zvakanaka ,true son of the soil.

  25. the greatest perpetrator of economic crimes, and the man responsible for dismal economic performance…thats what we will best remember the misguided cis graduate, the field of economic management is not for every tom, **** and harry! a nursing aid will never be allowed to practice medicine despite 30years in the field, let economics be respected as a specialist area!

We are very much prepared to defend it by any means necessary. We suffered for the last 9 years just because someone who think has great mind than His Excellence can lead Zimbabwe…………..oh yes…….. now that you signed. diliever what you promised to the people and first assignment should be a call to your masters to remove those evil sanctions Tsvangirayi we suffered a lot ……………… many Zimbabweans fled to countries abroad………many died………………education oh my God!!!!!!……………..we suffered a lot. We are watching you from a distance.. now its your time… OOOOOOOOOps heard you want british troops to come to Zimbabwe !!? for what nhai “save” ? We are not Botswana babaiwe kani chiiko!!? vakomana!!! Zvakawoma kushanda nevane njere shoma………. He is old that old man but paBrain ishasha hake. Gushungo signature yenyu makaitira vana veZimbabwe asi vamwe or mumwe wenyu akaitira vabveKure UK US France, German, Sweden Canada etc………!

    VIVA Cde R G Mugabe!!!!!!

  29. morgidza. The two of you are going to form a pressure group. What a laugh. Keep on dreaming because that is all you have.Your suffering in the last nine years was caused by your very own baboon of a president.Your baboon has made you suffer a lot.He is old and still has the brain and knowledge of a cave man.

  30. Targeted sanctions to remain for at least one month to determine baboons role in government.

  31. Baba = Morgan Tsvangirayi

I don’t think you are an Adult in actual sense!!!! period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. morgidza. zanu only has a few of the last hanger ons like you and scarface. The parties days are over just like it is for that baboon.Your chimpanzee president is history along with you wankers. If you even had a tiny piece of simple brain in your head you would reallise that your pressure group would have no takers. It is over. History is being made.zanu is dead.

  33. haaahhh “little minds will always contradicts”

  34. Thats what we would expect from a childish fool

  35. Recently British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was at pains to dispel reports that he had endorsed US presidential candidate Barack Obama over John McCain.
Brown insisted it was up to Americans to determine their future.
“I leave the decision, rightly so, to the American people,” he said. Really! So that right is reserved for Britons and Americans, what about Zimbabweans?
To Brown, I say: “Hands off our affairs!’’ The same message goes to George W. Bush and whoever succeeds him, to Kevin Rudd in Australia and all of like mind.

We are a sovereign people, respect us!!!!!!!!!!!!

Old man is 100% right keep your England and I will keep my Zimbabwe! ……………….not even a single inch from England!!!!!!!!!!! hahaaahhhhahahah!

  36. So morgidza why dont you leave Britain

  37. Baba!!!!!!!!!

Baba tell your Masters US UK German, Canada,Aussie New Zealand etc…………., we do not need their approval on how we should be governed, we are not their subjects, period!!!!!!!!!. What we simply want is the unconditional removal of the illegal sanctions they imposed when they claimed to be speaking and acting on behalf of a section of Zimbabweans who are now marching with the rest to a great future for our country. The West’s reaction, however, is hardly surprising. It is a reaction to be expected from an investor who fails to get returns on years of painstaking investments. To them, the deal is the equivalent of a stock-market collapse. Will they or won’t they get returns from the investments they made?

What of the ground already lost to the Chinese and Russians? Will they be given a foothold? baba and the West never stop to amaze the us the great thinkers!!!
    hahhahahahaha!!!!!!!

  38. morgidza. You have forgotten one thing. It was the west who brought zanu to power in the first place.Dont forget all the deals your chimpanzee had with the west to bring him to power. It was the west who brought him to power and it looks like they will also take it away from him.The investment the west made was your chimpanzee president and he turned out to be a complete failure. Now he must go because he serves no purpose to man or beast anymore.I hope he will be happy with his hoaring wife and illigitimate kids as he is no longer fit for purpose.

  39. Nhai iwe Mogidza Tsvangwa , uyu anga ari ambassador kuChina Chris Tsvangwa, mbavha huru yemuZanu PF(pfutseki) ndiani wako? Inenge hama yako iyi. Iwe Tsvangwa , i would rather have the British here vachitonga than have Zanu ichitonga ivo vanhu vachiyaura nenzara. Funga kamwe pagore mhani iwe.
