South African President Kgalema Motlanthe, who is also Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), has wished Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai a speedy recover on behalf of South Africa and the regional body.

A statement issued by Motlanthe read: “Government and the people of South Africa and indeed those of the rest of the SADC region, were shocked to learn of the accident involving your Excellency the Prime Minister and your wife Susan.”

The statement further said: “The thoughts and prayers of the people of South Africa are with you, while wishing you a speedy recovery, to enable you to resume your national responsibility as Prime Minister and to assist the people of Zimbabwe in their endeavour to national reconciliation and economic recovery.”

Former President Thabo Mbeki, on Saturday wrote a letter to Tsvangirai, to express his condolences.

Mbeki said his prayers was with the Tsvangirai family during their period of difficulty, and he wished Tsvangirai a speedy recovery in hospital.

ANC President Jacob Zuma also extended his condolences.

“On behalf of the African National Congress, we wish to extend to Prime Minister Tsvangirai and his family our heartfelt sympathies,” said Zuma.

“The tragic passing away of Susan Tsvangirai has been felt by the people of this country and the region.”

The ruling party president said the ANC wished Tsvangirai a “speedy and complete recovery” from his injuries.

Mozambique’s deputy Foreign Affairs minister, Henrique Banze, says his government is shocked to hear of the death of Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s wife, Susan, in a road accident, yesterday. “We have just heard of the death of Tsvangirai’s wife now and we are shocked,” said Banze in a telephone interview.

The State Department said in a statement that the United States “deeply regrets” the accident that occurred at about 4 p.m. Friday. “We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Tsvangirai and his family,” the State Department said.

Susan Tsvangirai died when the car they were travelling in collided with a large truck.

Tsvangirai was travelling in a 4 car convoy, his car was 3rd from front when a haulage truck driver negotiated and avoided the two security cars in front and drove towards Tsvangirai’s Toyota Hilux vehicle hitting it head on and killing Susan instantly.

It is not clear why there was no Police escort for Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister.

Meanwhile Tsvangirai’s two daughters who are studying in Australia have arrived in Zimbabwe. City of Sydney council worker Vimbai, who is in her mid-20s, and her sister Rumbidzai, 23, who lives in Perth, arrived this morning.

Update:President Robert Mugabe has sent a condolence message to the Tsvangirai family following the death of Amai Susan Nyaradzo Tsvangirai.

    The message reads
“On behalf of the party Zanu-PF, government, my wife and family and my personal behalf, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the Prime Minister and the President of the Movement for Democratic Change- MDC, Mr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai on the untimely death of his dear beloved wife, Susan, in a traffic accident.

This is a tragedy that has befallen our nation at a moment of great hope and expectation flowing from the formation of the inclusive government of which Mr Tsvangirai is Prime Minister.

We were all celebrating this major development when the tragedy struck.

It is a very sad occurrence indeed.

As I condo with the Prime Minister, I am acutely aware that he himself is nursing injuries from the same accident.

The whole nation anxiously prays for his recovery which we all hope will be swift and complete.

My heart goes out to the Prime Minister’s family, especially to the children who now have to face the future without the love and care of so dear a mother.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.”

    1. Guseni says:

We offer our condolences to Morgan Tsvangirai’s family for the loss of their mother. This accident was crafted by zanupf and masterminded by mugabe the chief sinner. We are mourning Susan Tvsangirai and I wonder why there was no police provided for security for the Prime Minister. THis will cause mistrust between our President and the idiot mugabe who has murdered Tsvangirais wife. Its a shame how zanu has been so jelous of how Morgan Tsvangirai is working and exposing zanu that they opted to eliminate him. Shame on you zanu and mugabe.

    2. Guseni says:

I saw mugabe holding our President Morgan at the hospital and I was very angry that the man who killed his wife is allowed to pretend as if he is grieving when he is the masterminder of the murder of his wife. MUGABE IS A DEVIL.

    3. Dynamos says:

We have taken our President to Botswana for safety reasons, you zanu murderers should assure him security before he comes back. PASI NEZANU. If you could leave us alone for the time being to mourn our First Lady Susan and we bury her in dignity, I for one wish that mugabe must not attend that wedding.

    4. Dynamos says:

Apologies comrades I am so moved by this death I am stating that mugabe should not attend the funeral of our First Lady Susan Tsvangirai.

    5. Matambudziko says:

My apologies to the family of Prime Minister M. Tsvangirayi. What a sad time for Zimbabwe.

    6. nicol says:

ava kuendepizve!!!security was offered to him bt turned down y,these so kold security of the mdc knows only security guard jobs not to guard a pm.if it was the cio of the presidential guards the road wld have bn swept of all cars for the premier to pass safely.nw biti is toking of it as an afterthot.the premier ws secure with security provided by zanu then you guys wld b saying to zanu wat happened to our man,bt as it is nw mazvokuda mavanga enyora.thjer truck ws owned by usaid, ands the driver employed by the british ,where does zanu fit in here.they neva wanted him to join nw want chaos in zim.i hope he did nt go to bots to b fed more lies.infact y bots b4 u bury yo wife.this has nothing to do with zanu,we r sori we wont rejoice lk u did wen cde manyika passed away.r.i.p sue.

    8. mwana wevhu says:

iwe stupid nicol nyarara. arent you ashamed of being so britonphobic to the extent that u claim its the british government that employed a driver to drive a USAID vehicle. *****! Zanu tinoiziva. you finished each other even during the liberation struggle. there is nothing new about your tricks. Why do you want to force the british into an issue that they do not have anything to do with? Hypocrites. We do not need your crocodile tears. keep them for that ***** grace when she’ll die of AI*S

    9. Abel says:

What do you expect when you keep security recruited by Bennet and then you let him rot in jail like this. This is an inside job. Hatimo munyaya iyi. makuda kupedzana takatarisa, mu 18 area umu hamusi right. munoda kuti Morgan afe pay yekutanga isati yatombopinda, tsvina yake isati yatombocrossa Samora.

    10. scarface says:

R I P MORGAN’S WIFE. OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU IN YOUR HOUR OF NEED!!!!

      But first things first:

Why as Primeminister did you not request state security?
Why is the bbc on the case like sherlock holmes as well as the cnn?
Why is everyone quick to blame Mugabe?
Why would mugabe want you killed now anyway?
Were you travelling on private or state business?

Do you realise there are any in the MDC who want you dead for joining the GNU?
Do you realise there are many in the west who may want you out of the way for failing to protect white farmers?
Do you realise there are some who may want you dead within your own party because they ar after your job?
Do you realise there are some who may want you dead because they see you a a stumbling block to the removal of Mugabe?
Do you realise that zanu pf may have nothing to do with this incident?
Do you realise that sanctions have wrecked our economy and the state of the roads?
Do you realise that those who supported you before do not want to remove sanctions because you did not meet their objective of removing mugabe?
Do you realise that the people of zimbabwe are in a state of desparation -confused , easily brainwashed by the media esp the west, hungry and ripe for exploitation.
Do you realise that you are now a primeminister working with mugabe and in so doing have made many enemies?
Do you realise that anyone working with mugabe is put under sanctions and the latest extension of sanctions is exactly that-these ar sanctions on you for working with mugabe.

May your wife rest in peace-we are all zimbabweans and we should also realise that this may have been a genuine accident. So god bless you .

In future try and use the gvt security that is paid for by the tax payer.Dont allow advisors to tell you this and that about the Junta security etc-your wife would be alive today had you taken state security..You are now part of the gnu and a important member of the gvt so be wise and not be seen to be mdc. Be seen as a member of the gvt and use state
tax payers security even though some call it Junta.

As a zanu pf suppporter i am quite sadeened by this latest development.Your wife was beautiful and i had never seen her before until now.My advise is dont trust anyone at this time.As i have pointed out above there are many enemies and keep your eyes open. Rushing to Botswana still be careful over there. Those Americans are capable of anything. As much as hate the mdc i was quite happy with your move to join the gnu…but there are others who are not happy and we have to worry about them. Why else would they be keeping sanctions on? Why are they so quick to blame mugabe? confuse us ? Yes!!!!! you will get through this and get on with the job mugabe swore you to do.Shame on those who want the gnu to fail…viva zimbabwe.

i am really sorry prime minister even if i dind’t know that you were married but the thing is, death is death , she was gonna die anywhere, that march the 6th was her day she wasn’t gonna escape it , just because she was rich thus why she died in a car accident some pple in africa in deep rural areas have never been in cars they use donkeys , if she was poor like my neigbhour mai ningi she was maybe going to die of cholera or starvation., this is GOD it shows that even if you have everything you can not overcome him. THE THING IS WE ARE REALLY SORRY PM HOPE YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS HEARTBREAKING TIME OF YOUR LIFE. LOTS OF LOVE ~~####~MERIT~####

    13. Slumdogg says:

RIP Susan Tsvangirai. To Mdstas rushing to blame Mugabe, CIO and Zanu PF, I say go to hell. Come out and say it now that it has been proven that the lorry is owned by the US with a British connection. Unless you are suggesting that Bob is working with the British and the US to eliminate Chematama?

    14. Dynamos says:

nicol, scarface, and slumdogg, zanu has the most intelligent cruel CIO operative well funded by the state. These jobs of killing people who go in their way is one of the ones they perform efficiently. Why did the farmer’s camera who was on the spot be consfisticated, and why were the MDC investigators arrested by your police. You were hiding evidence, and we will only accept an international investigation to declare what exactly happened. Whether this truck belongs to USAID or what is nothing for your CIO operatives, you have a proven record of murdering people via funny accidents.
We really are not interested in the crocodile tears of mugabe and that useless wife of his Grace, she will soon die of AIDS and followed by her thieving and murderer husband.

May you rest in peace Susan Tsvangirai first lady of Zimbabwe, condolences to your husband and 6 children and your relatives friends and MDC.

    18. The truth will come out. There is no need to panic. CIO operatives are quite capable of getting jobs as drivers fo aid companies, much the same as they are able to work overseas in top security positions. However, it cold be anyone,s call to have our president murdered. The unhappy generals, the ones who lost out on seats, the ones who oppose change. It will become clearer as events unfold. Just as it became clear that the death of chitepo was an inside job. Throwing around a lot of dust won’t help. The facts will come to light. Let’s mourn for our dear mother and be proud that she was a woman of virtue and a pillar of courage. T

    22. ndodla ndolila says:

This U.S.A.I.D truck(driver) crap is all about throwing spanners into the dirty work of C.I.O. This was a well orchestrated assasination plot. Mention ‘U.S.A.I.D’ and who would suspect foul play???!!!. For all I know the truck might have been conviniently hijacked and driven on that stretch of the road by the killers (read C.I.O) to coincide with Tsvangirai’s trip and the it’s driver handsomely paid (or even threatened with death) to keep quite. It wont wash. M.D.C must carry out extensive investigations of their own. Some of us saw it coming and advised Tsvangirai to never come back to Zim. R.I.P Susan.

    24. merit says:

why is everyone saying its the CIO that killed susan, why telling lies when we watched it on bbc news 24, she was killed by the us and the british so that they can enforce some more sanctions to zim giving my country a bad image, everyone is gonna die anywhere why are you preaching lies, you wanted her to die of starvation or cholera when it was already written down by GOD that she was gonna be killed by a US VAN. Yes of course we feel sorry for the children but those children are grown up now, the fact is pple die in zim and leave new borns day and night because we are short of medical supllies , we are used to death more than anything .WE are sorry prime minister but pple should not point fingers sayoing its so and so, let the police and CIO do their job we will accept the outcome.

    25. nicol says:

while we await the results of intelligence supremo tendai biti, hanzi we will conduct our own investigation, let me highlight the foolly of the mdc.they did the same with the security of the premier and now look at the results.i think from now on the gvt will have to force tsvangirai to accept gvt issued security ad discard ana mujibha vemdc coz he is part of gvt nw.bcoz the results r threaterning zim as we speak.look at the bad publicity we had in the past week with sites like this one inciting murder.mdc must learn nw.thats y our pres is guarded to the hilt to avoid such tragedy.ngaapihwe vanhu vane ekisipiriyenzi kwete mahumbwe emdc ava.these boys including tsvangirai r wet bhind the iyezi.zvekuita sevanoziva ivo vasina njere ngazvipere.finish and klar.

My condolence to the Tsvangirayi family & Zim at large. As Africans lets set aside our difference & rally behind those in bereavement.U neva know, 2mr its u(who may be bereaved) so pse lets not take this as a laughing matter

    28. Faraway says:

Whatever the hell happened, one can be assured that this was no accident. It reeks of a set up. ‘Killer hump’ is one of those dubious and ridiculous reasons given for the accident. Whenever there are vague details and dubious claims distributed by the state media you can be assured that Zanu Pf are involved in it up to their necks.

It is now high time that these brutal leaders are targeted, not only with more stringent sanctions, but by trucks with more professional and accurate drivers.

    29. Nyandwe says:

Pamunenge makatarisira munobva matorerwa. Ishe ndivo vanoziva chokwadi che zvakaitika whether it was a real accident or not….but WHY NOW??? Zvinonzi, “Whatever happens, God has a reason”…. I have so many questions with no answers and ONLY God can answer me. Zvisinei, RIP amai.

Haa, its not an accident mhani Bhla Kivha, its actually an incident, & this thing is a real GNU, as in Government of No Unity, cant yu see the coincidence, USAID vehicles being invloved in these issues, remember the Shiri shooting involved USAID vehicles again, these institutions have bn infiltrated by CIOs who want to shift the blame to the West.

May Susan’s soul rest in internal peace!!!

    34. Arnold says:

May we, as human beings have the decence to let those that have departed, depart in peace and also offer those that have been left behind space and console with them in their time of bereavement. It’s people like nicol and merrit that have lost any shred of humanity to the extend that they cannot separate humorous situations from times that demand a certain level of seriousness. You may not like the MDC and or Tsvangirai, but when someone passes away, that does not give you space and a platform to start headbashing them. Get real and get some common sense into your assumptions of situations.

May the LORD grant Mai Tsvangirai eternal peace.

    37. Please keep stupid comments to yourself. Our culture, chivhanhu, ubuntu, respects the dead. Its better for those who have other agendas to further them elsewhere. Dare I say conscience, may that which was lost be found in death. We beg all the barking dogs to be silent. Comments such as the one made by nicol and real deal merit scorn. Muchanotsve kugehena.not that u care anyway.

    38. The real Deal says:

I meant no offence No more tears but I’m glad your comment made me realize that my point hit home. That’s exaclty what I’m saying, everybody’s speculating but ain’t nobody know the real deal…CIO, Zanu, theUS, Chikaranga and had we been in Russia, I mos def would have said the Mafia in place of chikaranga but that’s it, nobody knows for sure so everybody should just zip up and use this thread to send condolences messages instead. R.I.P Suzan. Hope we shall all be partakers of the first resurrection.
