OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The objective of the programme is to contribute to the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity by supporting countries to:
Scale up effective PMTCT interventions in the context of the Road Map and Child Survival Strategy;
Increase the availability of, and accessibility to quality maternal and newborn care services which integrates PMTCT interventions and
Promote community PMTCT interventions in the context of improving community participation in MNCH.
Description of duties:
The incumbent is expected to provide technical expertise to countries by performing the following duties:
? Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the implementation plans to accelerate the reduction of Maternal and Newborn morbidity and mortality, with special emphasis on scaling up PMTCT interventions, through primary prevention of HIV infection, Preventing unintended pregnancies among HIV-infected women, Preventing HIV transmission from HIV-infected women to their children, and Providing care, treatment and support to HIV-infected mothers, their children and families;
? Adapt generic materials and standards for PMTCT, clinical management of HIV in pregnancy including use of ARVs, management of opportunistic infections, psychosocial support to HIV positive pregnant women and families and infant feeding in the context of HIV;
? Build capacities at all levels for the scaling up of PMTCT interventions in countries;
? Strengthen community participation in the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV including care and support
? Facilitate effective partnership and resource mobilization for PMTCT at country level;
? Follow up closely with countries in the sub-region, the implementation of regional and global orientations;
? Document best practices and lessons learnt in scaling up PMTCT interventions;
? Strengthen the national strategic information for evidence based decisions, particularly on PMTCT.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Degree in Medicine from a recognized university with postgraduate degree in Public Health or epidemiology.
Desirable: Training in HIV/AIDS and Maternal and Child Health (MCH).
Skills:
? Broad knowledge and skills in HIV/AIDS with emphasis on PMTCT Paediatric HIV and approaches for prevention, treatment, care and support, .
? Technical competencies in maternal, newborn and/or child health programmes;
? Ability to establish and maintain good working relationship at national and international levels.
Experience:
Essential: Several years experience in the field maternal and/or child health including PMTCT; some years in managerial position at national and international levels.
Desirable: Experience in research, especially operational research to improve performance of programmes and services as well as experience in programme development and implementation, including monitoring and evaluation.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French and a working knowledge of the other. Working knowledge of Portuguese is an advantage.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$ 63,052 at single rate
US$ 67,709 with primary dependants Post Adjustment: 38.2 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
