To save yourself from a lashing from Zimbabwean Superstar Oliver Mutukudzi never take a picture of him if you are in a front raw seat in one of his exclusive shows.
That is what a city man learnt a fortnight ago in Bulawayo. A City man was embarrassed when his favourite musician unleashed a cutting tongue, much to the surprise of the man’s female companion and fans at large.
“We have enough lightning in this place can that man over there switch off what he is carrying. We are fighting a thing called piracy and men like him who take pictures without permission are killing us. In the future please ask,” said Tuku after he had stopped midway through his third song of the night.
The City man obviously not the only one taking a video footage of the Zimbabwean great was the unlucky pick out of many fans who also shied from taking any footage after the lashing.
Sources from Mutukudzi’s band said that it was a spur of the moment because he has never done that. The closest to being mean to his fans has been refusing to take pictures with them because some go on to abuse them on the Internet leading to speculations about his health.
“He does not really do that even overseas where most of his money is made he never complains when people take his pictures. The only thing he does is avoid taking picture or shaking hands with fans,” said a band member.
