Pole dancing makes its way to Harare clubs

HARARE — Pole dancing has come to many of Harare’s hangouts and clubs where patrons turn up in large numbers to watch young women wearing very skimpy and revealing clothing dance on poles. This new dancing craze has pushed the dance groups that used to be popular at these joints into the background; no one knows if this is a passing craze or something a little more permanent. Oddly enough, not many people in Harare know exactly what’s involved in pole dancing as some think it’s the same as strip tease, probably from watching too many American movies where stripping while draping the body around a pole seems, at least so Hollywood imagines it to be the main entertainment in bars.

HARARE — Tryson Chimbetu has come under fire from some family members after accepting dancers that deserted his cousin Sulumani. Tryson is alleged to have employed the dancers a few weeks after they rebelled against Sulumani by refusing to get onto the stage alleging that they had not been paid. Allan Chimbetu, who is uncle to Sulumani and Tryson, told the Standardlife&style last week that the move had disappointed him. He said Tryson should have considered the connotations of his actions before employing the dancers.

This comes after her successful trial at the Women in Jazz Festival in September last year at the same venue. HARARE — Reigning Miss Universe Zimbabwe, Lisa Morgan, has urged government to start looking at the plight of kidney patients saying the disease has been given little attention. Morgan, who is also the Renal Ambassador, is set to take two boys to India next year for kidney transplants.
She is assisting the two boys to undergo kidney transplants as part of her role as the Renal Ambassador. This is also in line with her bid to bring awareness of the critical condition of the kidneys.

HARARE — The much-awaited Jamaican reggae dancehall artiste, Mavado has postponed the Zimbabwe show which was scheduled for the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on Friday.
The Alliance-affiliated singjay has postponed the show to January 27. C & A Entertainment manager, Clint Robinson, the organisers of the show, regretted the postponement at a news conference yesterday. “Mavado has not cancelled the Zimbabwe show but has postponed it. He has his personal reasons that forced him to postpone the show,” Robinson said.

HARARE — Stunner emerged the biggest winner at the Inaugural Zim Hip Hop Awards that took place on Wednesday night at the 7 Arts Theatre, in Avondale. The Godo hit-maker who made headlines earlier this week with his sex tape that was leaked onto the Internet and local press was nominated in four categories and walked away with three. He won the Best Male Hip Hop artist, Best Hip Hop Video for his chat-topping song Godo and the most coveted best Hip Hop Song of the year for the song Godo.
