Nyasha Mushekwi’s solitary strike ensured CAPS United progressed to the next round of the Confederation Cup sending South Africa’s Moroka Swallows out of the competition at Rand Stadium Saturday. Makepekepe drew one-all with the Dube Birds at Rufaro a fortnight ago. CAPS United progressed to the next round on 2-1 aggregate.
Mushekwi scored in the 23rd minute.With the win, CAPS United managed to erase the ghosts of last year’s outing in the Confederations Cup, when they were eliminated from 2009 tournament runners-up ENNPI in the round of 16.
Zimbabwe Warriors striker Mushekwi is firing on two fronts in CAF engagements this year for both club and country.Mushekwi returned to CAF club action yesterday with CAPS United just eight days after inspiring Zimbabwe to the second round of the Sudan 2011 Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers after eliminating Swaziland.
The 22-year-old Zimbabwe striker scored three goals home and away for his national team in the first round matches against Swaziland last month.Mushekwi scored one goal away against Swaziland in a 2-1 win and later recorded a brace at home in a 3-0 victory over the latter to advance in the CHAN qualifiers 5-1 on aggregate.
Mushekwi scored the opener in the first leg, his second goal in three Confederations Cup matches played for CAPS since kicking off in the competition in February.This has brought his total scored so far in all CAF engagements this term to six goals including the score against Moroka Swallows.
Six-time African champions, Al-Ahly quenched off the continental ambitions of Zimbabwean debutants, Gunners FC, with a 2-0 victory in their 1/16th round second leg clash on Friday. 
Ahmed Shokri and Mohamed Samir scored once each as the Red Devils cruised to a comfortable victory and advance 2-1 on aggregate to the next round of the premier continental club championships.
Ahly, lone goal losers from the first leg wasted a first half penalty after playmaker Mohamed Aboutreika had his effort saved by Gunners goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube after Emad Meteb was fouled in the penalty area on 14 minutes.
