The Zimbabwe Military has ordered some banks to go open temporally branches at barracks and camps to pay monthly salaries to the military.
Major General Trust Mugoba, Chief of Staff confirmed the development and said the order was reached after it was realised that they (soldiers) were now spending most of their productive time in bank queues.
“We now have mechanisms to ensure soldiers are not 24 hours looking for cash. We are grateful to the business community – (banks) that have agreed to pay soldiers at barracks. We are putting infrastructure (at stations) and I hope it will work and soon there will be no soldiers in the streets,” he said.
In a related development Radio VOP reported that the Director of Military Intelligence has instructed all members of the military police in Harare to round up soldiers in the city centre and order them into back to their their respective camps.
“The Director of Military Intelligence ordered the military police to go into the city centre and call up all the soldiers roaming in the city centre so that they can be on standby in their respective camps around Harare.
