GUNNERS captain and left-back Zhaimu Jambo has become the latest Zimbabwean player to join South African glamour club, Kaizer Chiefs.
Zhaimu did not even need to undergo trials and the two clubs agreed that Gunners would have a 30 percent share in the event he joins another club from Kaizer Chiefs.
There is also a clause in the deal allowing Gunners to find Zhaimu a club in Europe during his stint with Kaizer Chiefs as he had already attracted interest from Sweden where he underwent trials.
Zhaimu’s permanent transfer was sealed on Wednesday and all but spells the end of Warriors left-back Onismor Bhasera’s stint with Kaizer Chiefs amid reports that he had refused to renew his contract.
Bhasera has made 63 appearances for Chiefs since joining them from Maritzburg United at the start of the 2007/8 season.
With former Dynamos and Warriors central defender Thomas Sweswe and 19-year-old Aces Academy striker Knowledge Musona having joined already Chiefs on three-year deals, Zhaimu’s brings to three the number of Zimbabweans who have joined the SA club in one week.
They will join Warriors defensive midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha, who has featured in 224 matches for Chiefs, 213 of them in the starting XI.
Zhaimu, Sweswe and Musona leave for Johannesburg today to join Chiefs’ camp this weekend.
Gunners chairman, Cuthbert Chitima, confirmed the deal ”We have sealed a deal with Kaizer Chiefs and Jimmy (Zhaimu Jambo) will be leaving for South Africa on Friday (today) to join his new teammates. They are supposed to go into camp at the weekend.
“While Jimmy was an asset to Gunners, I believe we have a natural replacement for the leftback position in the form of Qadr Amini,” said Chitima.
The 19-year-old Qadr was a member of the national Under-17 squad.
Chitima added they had wanted to take Zhaimu to Europe but had to let him join Kaizer Chiefs as the European clubs were taking long to decide.
“We were looking at a European deal and we had been in contact with some clubs there, but they were taking long to decide and the player was getting impatient and frustrated.
“He had been patient for a long time and we felt that we could not afford to have him waiting for long before taking his talent outside the country. He needs to improve his life also and a move to Kaizer Chiefs gives him that opportunity.
“Also the good thing is that we have a clause in the deal that if anything significant comes up from Europe, then Kaizer Chiefs will let him move. So it’s a win-win situation for the player’s career and we wish him well.”
Zhaimu, who was with Dynamos since 1999 as an Under-13 player until he became a reserves player, had been with Gunners since their formation in 2005 when he was recruited by founding coach, Moses Chunga.
He later became a regular member of the locally based Warriors where he even scored directly from a corner kick at Rufaro in Zimbabwe’s 2-0 win over South Africa in a Chan final qualifier, second leg late last year.
Zhaimu said he would have loved to finish the current Premiership season which is promising for Gunners, lying in second place, two points behind leaders Dynamos.
“This season has been promising and I would have loved to see the club through and possibly win the tile but I believe there is enough depth to fight on without me.
“After all they have played and won a number of games without me this season and there is no reason why they can’t do it for the remainder of the season,” said Zhaimu.

This is yet another good move for the warriors players we hope for a better 2014 world cup
