Please note that for this placement we are only able to consider applicants who are fluent in Shona and / or Ndebele.

The Progressio Development Worker (DW) will work alongside the National Faith-Based Council of Zimbabwe (NFBCZ) – a coalition of five umbrella Christian organisations – as an Organisational Development Adviser in the development, capacity building and implementation of its reduction of sexual and gender-based violence programme. S/he will provide technical support in the development and implementation of organisational development systems to enable the NFBCZ to effectively carry out gender-empowerment programmes, psychosocial and counselling support programmes for victims of gender violence, policy analysis, advocacy, documentation and information dissemination on sexual and gender-based violence, HIV and AIDS and related issues from a faith perspective.

The successful candidate should have a degree or qualification in gender, development, project planning and management, social sciences or any other relevant discipline; a minimum of three years? work experience in gender/HIV and AIDS development work with Christian faith-based organisations (FBOs) or civil society organisations in an advisory/support capacity, and proven experience in training/facilitation methodologies and direct experience of training, specifically in organisational development.

You should have proven experience of working with Christian FBOs; proven ability to design and set up project planning and management systems, and to design and operationalise organisational administrative, financial and operational systems, and an understanding of the role Christian FBOs play in responding to gender-related aspects of development (e.g. gender-based violence, HIV and AIDS, poverty etc). The ability to train people in a) organisational development (strategic planning, strengthening the institutional framework, partnership development and coordination); b) documentation and information dissemination (including dissemination through discussion forums on faith and gender); c) project planning and management (envisioning the programme, undertaking needs assessments, strategising, implementation, monitoring and evaluation etc); d) the relationship between SGBV and HIV and AIDS and e) governance in development organisations, is essential.

You should also have good knowledge of gender as a development and human rights issue; good policy analysis skills; good interpersonal, communications and report writing skills; theological literacy and the ability to understand and effectively manage inter-denominational diversity within the Christian faith; good command of both spoken and written English and fluency in Shona and / or Ndebele. Preparedness to work with people from different Christian denominations, willingness to undertake road travel in Zimbabwe and demonstrable commitment towards the aims and objectives of The National Faith-Based Council of Zimbabwe are also essential.

A postgraduate qualification in gender studies, social sciences, project planning, and/or development studies with a gender focus; a theological qualification and a driving licence are highly desirable.
