The rebellion against the senior leadership of the Movement for Democratic Change(MDC) Mutambara has reached new levels as it has emerged that the party Secretary General Welshman Ncube plans to appoint the Party’s Research Secretary,Trudy Stevenson to replace suspended Nkayi South Member of Parliament, Abednico Bhebhe.
Ncube allegedly told the party’s Disciplinary Commitee chairman Lyson Mlambo that Bhebhe ‘s case is too strong and regardless of his defence should be expelled from the party. Bhebhe has since said his suspension was illegal and will not appear before the commitee.
“I understand that there is an instruction from someone in the leadership to fire people, our suspension is null and void and was unprocedural.”, said Bhebhe
Stevenson like the rest of the faction senior leadership lost her Parliament re-election bid and according to the Global Agreement if an elective vacancy arises the Party that initially held the seat appoints an official to fill that seat.
Stevenson reportedly wants all dissenting MPs fired ‘before they cause more confusion’. She recently signed the suspension letters of the MPs after Legal Commitee chairman Mlambo declined saying some of the cases against some of the legislators are more of a personal vendetta than a genuine case.
According to sources Lupane MP Njabuliso Mguni is also likely to be expelled from the party to pave way for the party’s Deputy president Gibson Sibanda, who has to find a constituency before the end of the month, failure of which would result in him losing his ministerial post. Party Treasurer Fletcher Dulini-Ncube and Elections Director Paul Themba Nyathi are also reportedly eyeing the vacant seats.
Political analysts however warned that it would be risky for MDC-M to fire 5 of its MP’s because despite that under the power sharing deal the Mutambara MDC can have by-elections to replace its MP’s against any other party that is neither MDC-T or ZANU PF. However the sacked MPs can still run as independent candidates. There is high possibility that MDC-T would support the sacked MPs as independent candidates.
In a related development Metro has since established that Deputy Speaker of Parliament Nomalanga Mzilikazi Khumalo is strongly supportive of the Members of Parliament who have joined the overgrowing dissent against the Deputy Prime Minister.
Khumalo who is also the Member of Parliament for Umzingwane has already reportedly addressed several meetings in her constituency ostensibly to explain that the party would be going through a turbulent period ‘because the leadership has abandoned the people and care more about their welfare’.
Khumalo allegedly told one gathering that some people in the leadership that were rejected by the electorate have developed dictatorial tendencies as they want to impose their will on the party by resorting to suspending whoever they want arbitrarily.
Khumalo also attended a meeting in Bulawayo organised by four of the dissenting legislators at which they resolved to vote with MDC-T in Parliament and will request to caucus with the Prime Minister’s party.
At the meeting one of the MPs reportedly fired a slavo at the party’s secretary general, Welshman Ncube and accused him of using his relationship with South Africa’s newbie president Jacob Zuma to threaten some party officials. Ncube’s son Wesley is married to Zuma’s daughter Gugulethu.
Ncube reportedly threatened to quit if dissenting MPs were not disciplined and claimed that if he quits the faction would be irrelevant as it would lose its only international backing from South Africa because of his close relationship with Zuma.

ah manje so?

This is disgusting reporting once again. What does Zuma have to do with this. You probably on MDC-T payroll and ZANU PF at the same time. Shame on you. Screw you get a life. You make your living on talking bull****, who the hell are you , Guseni, go do something that will actually help the country rather than talk rubbish and spread lies. Or at very least conuct your job in a dcent way, as for Guseni. Do you even understand what Welsh has done for this country. You ignorant punk. the only progress over the last few years has come from the talks n here u go speakinhg like u know anything. Welsh may have his faults but Zimbabweans owe him credit, if it wasn’t for Bob n Tsvangiarai n their refusal to take responsibility and blame every1 else for zim’s problems we would be far by now. At very least we have leaders carrying responsibility n fighting to improve things
