Harare  – Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai will not testify in the trial of Chinoona Mwanda, the truck driver who allegedly caused a crash that ZIMBABWE TSVANGIRAIclaimed the PM’s wife, Susan in March.

The trial starts on Monday (May 20) in Chivhu where Mwanda faces culpable homicide charges.

Prosecutor John Hama said a total of 16 witnesses have been called but Tsvangirai will not give testimony.
Hama added that he had already furnished the defence team led by lawyer Chris Mhike of Atherstone and Cook with the State case papers to enable him prepare his client’s defence.

“We have 16 witnesses and I feel it’s not necessary to call him in this case. We are also considering whittling down the number of witnesses because evidence of some of them is similar,” he said.

“Remember last time I indicated that today the State would provide the accused with his trial date, which we have done. At that time we were still having the docket finalised.”

It is the State’s case that Mwanda cuased an accident on 6 March when his vehicle crashed with Tsvangirai’s vehicle along the Harare-Masvingo highway.
