The cashstrapped Premier Soccer League (PSL) has laid off its office workers. Only one worker, whose sole responsibility is to send out club fixtures and other correspondences to the clubs now mans the office.
The Premier Soccer League has also been struggling to pay rent for its offices situated at the City Sports Centre, which is owned, by the Sports and Recreation Commission.
The Premier Soccer League chaired by Tapiwa Matangaidze have been struggling to pay workers, following the announcement by sponsor CBZ Bank that they are not committing anything this year.
In the past league employed a chief executive officer, Chris Sambo before the post was phased when the then sponsor Econet Wireless pulled out in 2006. The secretariat was then left with accountant, secretary and office orderly who have however been laid off as the Premier Soccer League cannot afford to pay them.
The laying of workers throws the running of football in jeopardy.
