President Robert Mugabe reportedly told Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai last week to drop Roy Bennet as Deputy Agriculture Minister if he is to be freed, sources say.
Metro has also established that the key people behind Bennet’s incarceration is Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa and Security Junior Minister Didymus Mutasa who benefited from Roy Bennet & Brothers ‘s Charleswood Estate farm.
Meanwhile Police last night arrested Livingstone Chipadze, the provincial magistrate, for allowing Roy Bennett, the incarcerated MDC top official, to deposit bail money with the clerk of court.
The provincial magistrate is being charged with criminal abuse of office.
Chipadze was arrested on Thursday night and is being held at the Mutare Central Police Station.
Human rights lawyer, Trust Maanda, said the arrest was illegal and a serious blow to the administration of justice.
“It is illegal to arrest a magistrate for doing his job. If they (State) are not happy with his ruling they are supposed to appeal to a higher court instead of arresting a magistrate. It is frightening for a magistrate to be arrested because he has passed a judgment that is not popular with the State,” Maanda said on Friday.
Magistrate Chipadze is accused of improperly allowing Bennett’s lawyers to deposit bail money and complying with other bail conditions on Tuesday.
After the bail money and his passport had been deposited at the Clerk of Court on Tuesday, a warrant of Bennett’s liberty was issued. But it was immediately seized by a senior prison official, Zondai Nyatsanza, who then disappeared with it.
It was not immediately clear when Chipadze will be taken to court.
Bennett, the MDC treasurer and nominee for the post of deputy minister of agriculture, faces charges of terrorism, insurgency, sabotage or banditry. He however denies the charges, saying they are politically motivated.
Bennett was granted bail by the High Court last week, but the Attorney General’s (AG) office immediately appealed against the ruling.
The AG’s office was not granted leave to appeal prompting them to approach the Supreme Court which ruled in their favour Thursday.
There was confusion on Tuesday after it remained uncertain whether the AG’s office would file their appeal at the Supreme Court prompting Bennett’s lawyers to comply with bail conditions imposed by the High Court.
In what could be more evidence that Bennet’s case is politically motivated,Metro has established that the prosecutor involved in the Bennet and Mukoko’s cases Christopher Mutangadura is a former ZANU PF ward chairman and the president of the shadowy Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (ZICOSU) a strongly ZANU PF aligned student grouping meant to counter the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU).
The arrest of the provincial magistrate has sparked outrage in Mutare with most people questioning the sincerity of the unity government formed by President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF and the two MDC political parties led by Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara.

These stupid zanu baboons can’t understand why the rest of the world wont help with aid. This is just another perfect example for the reason why.
JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) -THE World Bank would not release any financial aid to Zimbabwe expressing fear the “unreliable government” of president Robert Mugabe would divert the funds towards reviving Zanu (PF)’s waning political supremacy, a senior official has said.
Addressing a three day New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) Summit at the Sandton Convention in Johannesburg on Thursday, World Bank Country Director for Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland, Ruth Kagia, said the world financial institution was not happy with the calibre of Zimbabwe’s government, which has previously been accused of diverting financial relief to political campaigns instead of resolving the country’s economic crisis.
“The World Bank has challenges in financing projects in countries like Zimbabwe where the funds are diverted to political campaigns. Governments of the likes of Zimbabwe have on numerous occasions abused the good gesture by both the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, so giving them financial support at this crucial moment would be like facilitating their ego to revive their waning political supremacy at the expense of the starving people.
“Instead of directing the funds towards addressing issues of cholera outbreak, HIV/AIDS and hunger, the government is busy using the funds for political mileage, something the World Bank would never ever support,” said Kagia.
She said the Bretton Woods financial institution would bankroll Zimbabwe only if it revived the rule of law, property rights as well as the appointment of an apolitical central bank governor.
She said the Zimbabwe problem was an example of why the World Bank and other financial institutions were not supporting development in countries that are being run by “dictators”.
Untill you stupid zanu baboons change your ways, there is no hope for Zimbabwe. The law is going to catch up with you useless bunch of zanu baboons.Go back to the jungle from where you came because that is the only thing you understand.

Lets stop crying about zanu/mugabe, we all know their tactics and we know their intentions. We went into this knowing what they were going to do – try to frustrate us as much as possible. What is surprising is Tshwankilayi is powerless and speechless about all this. Where is he? What is he doing? He can not even raise his finger, were are all the promises flip flopper? These are your prople, your supporters. Bennet’s wife is blaming you – its not surprising. Where is Mutsekwa, your home affairs minister, silent when police under his command are victimizing MDC and arresting magistrates for passing judgments in favour of MDC. Swankilayi you are failing your people, your weakness is sickening. Mugabe will pee on you. The Bitis are not saying anything now – sweet power!!

From its onset in the 1960s this has been ZANU (PF)’s way of dealing with dissent. It is no surprise that they have attempted to kill the Prime Minister and in the process have killed an innocent humble, and motherly woman. Why arrest the person who photographed the scene of accident if it was just an “accident”.Was it really a UN truck? What about the driver ? Who is he?Things don’t seem right here.Don’t trust ZANU(PF).May God protect and comfort the Tsvangirayi family during this time of grief.
