Recently freed senior MDC official Tendai Biti will be appointed to the powerful post of Minister of Finance and Economic Development by the Prime Minister designate Morgan Tsvangirai, a source has revealed.
Biti is the Secretary-General of the MDC and was the MDC chief negotiator in the SADC brokered unity talks. He served as the MDC’s Secretary for Economic Affairs, and is reportedly the brains behind RESTART, the MDC economic blueprint.
Also in the cabinet will be Roy Bennet who returned to Zimbabwe for the first time in more than two years after claiming asylum in South Africa. Bennet is the MDC Treasurer General and will be one of the non constituency Members of Parliament that the MDC will appoint according the power sharing deal.
The source also revealed that a draft cabinet list has been drawn up by the MDC President and his closest advisers but is yet to be presented to the party ‘s National Executive Council for approval before being passed on to President Robert Mugabe next week.
The Finance post is envisaged to be the most powerful post in the unity government as the country tries to piece back together the shattered economy, crushed by the world’s highest inflation.
More than half the population needs food aid to survive, while only six percent of the workforce has jobs, according to the United Nations.
But major donors like Britain and the United States have said they will wait to see if the new government can function before giving the new administration major new aid.
In a related development Metro has learnt that MDC MP Evelyn Masaiti-Matongo who had been tipped for a cabinet post has been dropped, Masaiti who is personally close to the MDC President is the MDC Women’s Assembly Secretary-General and wife of the late MDC National Chairman Isaac Matongo.

There is nothing new about speculation on public figures. In fact that what makes news. Everyone has been speculating about the GNU, Gono and his MPS, elections, Budget, etc. So let speculation live coz it makes sense especially if ppl air their views. Biti can be Finance misniater since it was his portfolio in MDC but I would love him to take Home Affairs if MT can get a candidate for Finance. He should also look at those who did not make it to parliament.

FINALLY MUGABE BEGINS HIS DESCENT INTO DUSTBINS OF HISTORY
Whether Nicol et al want, this is the beginning of the oblivion of this satanic dictator and most evil man that ever lived in our motherland-Robert Matibili Mugabe. Here goes the man that we will wish to forget with hast, a man whose hands drip blood of innocent people of Zimbabwe. I think Mugabe should just present himself to Zimbabweans for their own prosecution (and possible pardon) in order to clear his name and person. We thank God for Tsvangirayi and MDC for de-rusting Zimbabwe of this man and his regime and people like Nicol. Finally, this mafia is going, has loosened their evil and wicked grip on the people of Zimbabwe and their resources.
Biti should immediately boot out Gono (the man who made us Google Wilkipedia for such numbers as Quattuordecillion, Novemdecillion, Novemtrigintillion) in endeavours to understand our inflation in figures. And then Nicol et al scream foul when their masters are being booted out. Did you know these numbers Nicol et al? They formed part of your inflation during the term in office of your “heroes”.

I support that Bennet should be given a seat next to Chinamasa the ugly hiv infected senator (Charamba included). Robert Mugabe has fired 10 provincial governors to pave way for the sharing of the provinces with the MDC.
According to top government officials Mugabe sent out letters to dismiss the governors on Thursday advising them that they have been relieved of their duties.
