Harare, March 11, 2010 – Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader and Prime Minister of Zimbabwe’s inclusive government, Morgan Tsvangirai told diplomats on Wednesday that he will now “urgently” appeal to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for a resolution on the deadlocked inter-party talks with Zanu PF.

SADC are the guarantors of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) Tsvangirai signed with President Robert Mugabe and the leader of the small MDC faction Arthur Mutambara in September 2008.

Tsvangirai told the diplomats that Zanu PF was continually undermining the transitional government by their refusal to abide by the commitments they signed in September 2008.

“The cost of this crisis to the people of Zimbabwe is becoming too great to bear. Despite our patience, the talks to resolve the outstanding issues of the GPA have achieved no significant results and thus I am now scheduling urgent consultations with the guarantors of the GPA,” said Tsvangirai.

Zanu PF has been calling for the remova1of sanctions imposed on President Robert Mugabe’s inner circle by the West before any reforms could be implemented. But Tsvangirai said Zanu PF is to blame for the imposition of the measures.

“We understand that Zanu PF were the authors of these restrictions and we expect the international community to review them in line with democratic progress and reforms within Zimbabwe,” said Tsvangirai.

The West imposed travel and financial restrictions on Mugabe’s close allies because of a string of stolen elections and gross human rights violations.

Dont hold your breath for any action by SADC. The phrase “wishful thinking” springs to mind.

Zuma is letting us down, we thought he would do better than Mbeki. SADC is a useless body they protect each other as Comrades, Africa is going nowhere without respecting democracy. The reason why the economy of South Africa is solid and performed well to come out of recession is because there is good opposition. SADC we request that you have balls and tell mugabe that you don’t recognise him unless he fully implements the GPA.

Whats in it for SADC to reign in Bob? Has it ever occured to you how much some of these fly by night countries are benefitting from Zimbabwe’s chaos? The very South Africa you admire so much is benefitting immensely from the professionals in the country.Show me one strong corporate in SA without a Zimbabwean professional in their top magement especially on the technical side and I just might show you my virgin grandmother.
The nonsense you hear about the refugees straining their countries is just politics. If you weigh the gains versus the losses, its Zimbabwe that is loosing and not the neighbouring countries.

One question for the MDC; for how long are u going to be appealing to SADC and when are u going to tire from them appeals?

SADC is in the same boat with Zanoids but it looks like its going to take the interlectuals in MDC a 100 years to realise that.

There are very few and limited options for MDC. Mugabe claims that the MDC is a puppet of the West. This means that if the MDC goes to any western country or UN, Mugabe will play a race card. AU and SADC want to be seen to solve african problems and that is the only route. MDC should go international after SADC and AU wash their hands off the GNU matter. People who want war have never seen the brutality of an armed Mugabe. In Mozambique they claim that Mugabe killed more people than the Mozambican warlords. The Moto Margazine used to cover these stories. Mugabe is tr**** happy, let us put the gun out. Talks are good in the sense that whoever is mad on the round table will be seen by hiding behind a fingure. It is difficult to remove dictotors from office, I know.

You are right about one thing Dzimai, Mugabe can HIT.Haasikize so noone really wants to start that nonsense with him. What I have always said is that MDC made the mistake long time ago to loose the trust of the armed forces when they were still green(Not that they have matured much now) and threatened the generals. You dont threaten generals in any country and expect to take over power.Any fool knows that.If Mandela had threatened General Theoron and General Malan, do you think he would have ever ruled South Africa? No ways. That is simple politics for you.Might is right, unfortunately.
Now Bob without his soldiers would just become another harmless mouse, simple maths there but alas, Morgan in trying to please his foreign masters and the crowd at Rufaro stadium went on a verbal rampage making threats which he may never carry out anyway.

Baba Tee, when dealing with an 86 year old man, and you talk about immortality, I am forced to conclude that you have run out of ideas.Honestly Mugabe dying is not exactly a solution and there is no guarantee that it is in MDC’s intrests to have Mugabe die in power.
I hope you did not miss my main point though sir, you need the generals to rule in Africa.Even Mugabe took general Walls and Ken flower of the Rhodesian national army and Central intelligence organisation to maputo dayys before the election. They did not go there for a picnic sir. They went and discussed mordalities of what would happen after Mugabe won and how Mugabe would not take retributive measures and not harm their intrests.Google operation Quartz and see what the Rhodesian forces had planned for Mugabe and his boys. They could have taken him out like a fly, but because Mugabe had discussed with their bosses, the plan was thwarted.I hope I am making sense to you sir. This business yekuda kufadza crowd has often gotten Morgan into trouble.Let him mature.
