Harare – President Robert Mugabe’s nephew Leo Mugabe is embroiled in a messy divorce wrangle which has exposed that he owns multiple farms, against the spirit of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) which brought about the new unity government.
The unity government is has plans to carry out a land audit to deal with multi farm owners and ensure equitable land distribution.
Leo’s former wife, Veronica filed divorce papers in the Harare High Court that show that the couple owned at least three farms in Mhangura, Makonde and Banket. Veronica is claiming 100 percent ownership of one of the three farms and at least 50 percent ownership of another. She also wants livestock, machinery and furniture of all the three farms, Nangadza in Mhangura, Journey’s End in Makonde and another one in Banket.
Veronica is also seeking 50 percent of shareholding in Leo’s firms such as Telecel Zimbabwe, Stewarts and Lloyds, Integrated Engineering Group, steel dealer Baldwins Steel and Themiso Holdings Limited.
She is accusing her husband of abandoning his financial and parental responsibilities and is seeking custody of the children. She says their marriage has irretrievably broken down because Leo has denied her “love, respect, affection, companionship and friendship” that is expected between wife and husband.
Leo is a former chairman of the local soccer body, Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) before he was booted out for allegedly mis-using a soccer development grant from FIFA, the world’s soccer governing body.
He is also a political heavyweight in Zanu PF’s Mashonaland West, Mugabe’s home province and stronghold area.

These are some of the useless buffoons taking our country down the drain.Everything he touches turns to dung.Remember the airport scandal?winning a tender and being given money for a full international airport and going on to build a substandard airport. He was in football, destroyed that too. Now he grabs some farms and I can assure you if we visit that farm all you will see is some boys digging for mice in the fields.Useless bugger I say.

Come on guys this is a purely private matter. Let us not judge because we do not know who is responsible for the breakup of this family. The issue of multipler farm ownership is probably the smoking gun in this case. Let us leave the private divorce court order alone and concentrate on condemning Leo for being a multiple farm owner. I however sympathise with both Leo and Veronica during this sad chapter of their once very happy marriage. I hope the settlement will not include farms as Leo probably does not own these farms but is only leasing. It is silly for Veronica to claim ownership of a leased farm if that is the case.

Poor Leo. But if he is leased 3 farms then we have to question that whether he owns or is leased. Why not one man one farm???
As for Leo and his wife good luck on them. But If the wife is taking the kids then she should have more of his property.

Dear Mtu,zvi adona
Please go over my message again. Ask someone else who understands the queen’s language to assist you. I never said the issue of farms is private (after all their are a national asset). All I said is that the reasons why Leo and his wife are parting (or divorcing) is very private. I hope you are also married and understand that bedroom issues are private. All I am against is for us to speculate on who is responsible for the divorce. Yes we can shout about “our” farms but not other people’s bedroom business.

By other’s mistakes wise men correct their own. All public figures take note. For example if we hear that a president or prime minister has fertilized a woman then that woman will be the “First Lady”. For public figures there is no separation of public and private life. What public figures do in private is actually mouth watering news. I remember after the death of Susan Tsvangirai, Morgan was spotted with a lady identified as Dr Chihombori. The picture of Morgan and Dr Chihombori did a lot of rounds on the internet. If you happen to be a public figure and do not walk straight there is no escape.
