Spokekesman for Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai says he holds high hopes for today’s scheduled summit of SADC leaders in Maputo.

Heads of state of the Southern African Development Community Troika countries are making yet another attempt to help resolve the political crisis in Zimbabwe.
James Maridadi said that full implementation of the Global Political Agreement remains the core issue before today’s summit.
“The MDC is saying let us implement what we agreed on and let us also observe what is contained in the communiqué of January 2009. Only then can the inclusive government start functioning properly,” Maridadi said.
Maridadi said he finds it comforting SADC views the implementation issue as key to any resolution of the crisis.
“The most consoling thing is that the SADC (has) realized the need to implement the Global Political Agreement in full and the need to observe the SADC communiqué of January 2009 as the basis for negotiations,” he said.

Taking part in today’s scheduled summit are Mozambican President Armando Guebuza, Zambian President Rupiah Banda and King Mswati III of Swaziland. They are expected to meet with Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Tsvangirai.
The MDC spokesman credited the sub-regional body for handling the Zimbabwean crisis with a sense of urgency.
“The fact that the ministerial committee on Troika came to Zimbabwe soon after the visit by the prime minister (Tsvangirai)… and barely a week later we have a SADC summit.

To me, it is a positive sign that SADC is taking this issue seriously and they are giving it the urgency that it deserves and I cannot wish for more,” Maridadi said.
For their part, President Mugabe and his ruling ZANU-PF party maintain they are committed to the full implementation of the agreement.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch is calling on the SADC leaders to “press” President Mugabe’s party to end what it calls the ongoing human rights abuses in the country.

why didn’t mugabe talk to journalist after the meeting in Mozambique?

Maridadi is an idiot. He thinks this is a junior 3 kids programme on radio.Who is he fooling? We all know that the SADC troika ministerial delegation travelled to Lesotho, DRC, Madagascar then Zimbabwe, and it was not the Zim issue alone that was on the agenda. The troika summit was a result of the sadc summit held in drc in september that recommended the review of situations in all of the above mentioned countries not just zim only. This maridadi fool and his idiotic boss need to be reminded that the western created MDC-t has its own obligations to meet like calling off the economic sanctions it invited and facilitating the closure of pirate radio stations like sw radio africa. After this has been done, then the gpa has been fully implimented. The issues of Gono, Tomana, bennet etc are not in the GPA . The economic sanctions that MDC invited are the most serious outstanding issue at the moment because they are killing and impoverishing millions on a daily basis. The western puppet-Tsvangirai , mdc and their western and rhodesian handlers are responsible for the socio-political and economic problems Zimbabwe experienced for the past decade. We also need to remind these sellouts that the illegal sanctions have been condemned by almost each and every SADC summit communique therefore we will also be refering to the SADC communiques. ZIDERA(that mdc crafted) must be lifted within 30 days ,and pirate radio stations must be shut down within 30 days.

Very interesting MUKANYA what ever this means. Radio stations will never close. go and ask the owners. MDC does not own radio stations. in any case they are the only ones that tell us the truth, Like these websites, do you think Herald can open a site like this where people could comment and say anything they want, not in Zimbabwe under MUGABE is that democracy??You say sanctions are killing millions, did they kill the 20 000 Ndebeles in the early 80′s. Look at what is happening in Mashonaland at the moment, Mugabe is killing people on a daily basis now you say its sanctions do they have guns, do they kidnap people at night? Think my friend

Dube.
The grievancies that Zanu pf has are actually mentioned in the GPA itself unlike your party’s grievancies that are not found anywhere in the GPA.
Yes you right….and wrong. The call for the lifting of the targeted sanctions was alluded to in the GPA document as well as the pre-cursor announcement. However…all of the appointments and agreements are written in stone in each of the documents. Less than 25% of those have been fulfilled by ZPF.
MT announced within 2 weeks of the GPA agreement that sanctions should be lifted. RGM has announced nothing but epithets and delayed the GPA. (Editor)

Mr Editor it would be usefull for your readership if you could substantiate your claims e.g the 25%. Did you just suck your thumb and come up with that figure. Its usefull for our debates if you could point out the things MDC were to act upon and tick those that they have acted upon.Likewise list the items Zanu pf should have acted upon and tick those that they have acted upon. This way we will remove this ambuguity that is over the Zimbabwe scene.Right now cheerleaders on both sides have not even read the GPA but are taking hard line stances. Need we wonder why people are always being led up some garden paths by these politicians?
Where do I start…..
1. Appointment of the various committees covering Media, Corruption, Land Audits, etc…none appointed.
2. Tomana and Gono
3. Governors
4. Bennett
5. Land Invasions
6. Restrictions on the State Media promoting Hate Speech
I could go on and on…suffice to say at the last count…President Mugabe has Acquiesced to 48 and delayed over 200

A Quote by RGM.
“There is nothing in the GPA that has not been done by ZANU PF, nothing at all. We have fulfilled everything that the GPA wanted us to fulfill”: Robert Mugabe, 24 October 2009
These are blatant LIES. And he knows it…Why are Zimbabweans tolerating this Fiasco ??
PS. I haven’t even started on the Security Apparatus like JOMIC

Cleopas, the reason is that people like you just simply hate the junta and climb onto a plane to far away lands hoping that someone can remove the old man and so that you can come back and live happily ever after. And we wonder why Robert can rule till kingdom come.
